Hood Latch

After taking my FX35 to the local mechanic for an annual state inspection I have noticed that the hood latch lever does not work anymore!
I lift the lever to the stop and then have to reach inside the lever with a finger and get underneath the cable and give it a tug to pop the hood.
I think some monkey pulled the crap out of the lever and stretched the cable.
I've looked at the latch and I can't figure out how to tighten this.
I'm hesitant to take this back to the local bozos, the car has 59K miles so it's still under warantee I think.
Any ideas?

Hmm, so the entire cable move when you pull the hood release handle from inside the car? Supposedly, only the steel center cable move when you pull the hood release handle. If that's the case, the cable need to push back into a slot near the latch where it holds the outer plastic coated jacket of the cable so when you pull on the release handle, the center steel cable would trigger the latch.

The entire cable doesnot move, just the center cable but there is too much play in it.
The handle thingy is not rigid against the dash like before, kinda loose and sloppy, sticking out a 1/4" or so. I think thats the problem...too much slack and no way to tighten it?

I'm not aware of anyway to tighten it. Have you look closely around the handle area making sure it is properly seated everywhere. It's pretty hard to be stretch the center steel cable by hand. I would double and triple check to make sure the cable is properly seated/fitted into the slot/catch on both ends.
