was bored and decided to paint my hood deflector (infinitipartsusa) to match the color of my grille, Krylon Fusion Satin Black... gave it three coats and was looking pretty good... then i gave it a coat of Valspar clear gloss to increase durability and as soon as i applied it i got this cracking/spider web effect on my deflector BUT only on certain areas. any ideas what caused this? Help!

it happened to me couple times. I use Krylon paints also but only sometimes clear coats. I never used the valspar. Maybe those two paints cant work together, but i think you probably applied the clear coat to fast. Your color paint didnt dry enough and thats why it happened

I used Krylon Fusion on my window trim too. Paint and clear, at least 4-5 coats of each and did not encounter this problem. It could be he Valspar clear too. Why did you not use Fusion clear?

i thought it was the mixture of two different paint types but im leaning towards not enough time to let it cure... i heard to give it at least a few hours and even a day... i waited an hour after i put on the clear... got a lot of wet-sanding to do.... live and learn:mad.:

This happens to me as well with wood finishing. The second coats solvent (from another manufacture) disolves the first coat (its like using paint remover). I mainly use Krylon and the clear coat never disolves the primary coat.

since the deflector is acrylic and is a property of plastic i just sprayed right over it... i did clean out any impurities before painting. will resand and give it another go but will let it cure longer.
