Hey guys, just joined the site :.smile: and am planning on getting a used 02-05 infiniti fx35 in the next 2 months (havent had a chance to go look at the inside of one at a dealer yet tho .. anyways, so i been doing some research on how to install a stereo. I plan on installing a double din touch screen along with a sub. I been noticing that some people on non nav fx35's relocate the 2 color screen that takes place above the air controls, Is this required to be kept? or can i take that out and place my touch screen here? Also can i just drop in the unit right into the slot of will i need to modify the slot?

Hmm well lets start with those questions, sorry if they seem repetitive at all, i been reading alot of threads on various sites and been getting a bit confused, I been able to install a stereo in my Toyota highlander, but didnt have a screen already in the car =[

Anyways thanks for the help!

Edit: Oh p.s. sorry if some of this is worded weird, just drove 13 hours straight today and a bit tired >_< anyways thanks again

Edit: Oh for a head unit i was thinking of an alpine IXA-W407

there is no "slot" you will need to fab up brackets and such. The reason people move the temp. control is because our HU is a little weird and does not like aftermarket things, at all

For basic info on your car, you basically need to keep the 2 color unit. It displays your temp controls(no dials in our cars), your tire tpms readings, and other little tidbits that i cant think of right now. Its not just reading out stereo info.

found an example:

Ohhh, so i would have to take it to a shop to get the screen relocated and a double din bracket made up. Hmmm.. would it be more worth while to spend 2k more on used fx35 with a nav already installed then goto a shop? Havent had one installed before at a shop and i dont think that going to best buy and spending that ~$250 for their install thing.. i dont think its what they do (fabracation). If i do a nav unit instead would there be a RCA connections on the back for a amp? hmmm... or are there better ways to go about connecting a system with a nav already installed =\

If I was you, I'd get the non-nav FX and use that extra money to have a reputable car stereo shop (not Best Buy) install a sweet stereo that has everything you need.

Im in the same boat, trying to figure out how to do this on my wifes '03, have a JVC nav radio sitting here and just need to figure out how to relocate the screen and if I need to separate out the stereo wires from the harness when I extend it to move the screen?

i would like to install a flip out or a aftermarket radio where the clock is. i want it to control the radio and the factory head unit to just be the navigation . is it possible ? dr2k i kno u have a aftermarket stereo in the area i want mine . give me some info. thanks .

Just read the thread in my sig on the alpine D310 ///415. I'm still using the factory Bose amp and still retained the CD changer capability through the new head unit.

I'm new I just joined the IS forum and was wondering could you help me out on how you installed the single din in the place of your clock. Is a DIY project or did you have to take it to a shop. Also I was considering putting the new Pioneer avh-x7700bt in the place of the clock. Looking owards your feedback.
