Hit a Tire

Glad the kiddos are ok - check the weld points on the gtspec.....im just saying. theyre not as strong as we think....

Yup the same thing happen to me about 2 years ago..

It was just when I got the new Eibach's put in...I was lucky that it was a spare tire. If it was a full size tire I would of definetly flipped and might not be here today..

wow man, luckily it looks like it coulda been much worse. should be just a matter of replacing the broken plastic cover from what I see, #10.

Yep . . #10 it is. It was completely ripped apart, but that was the only real damage. The front stabilizer bar took the big hit aft the plastic cover. Got a ding in the bar, but then again, that may have happened in a separate incident that I dont recall. The mid ladder protected the next series of covers. Overall, was real lucky in this one. Just need to order that one shield from Joe tomorrow.

Any fabricators out there know about the possibility of making that plastic lower engine guard (splashpan?) from aluminum? I would think that an aluminum version thin enough to weigh the same would be much stronger. Maybe not cloning the piece per say, but creating something a little simpler that would utilize the existing mounting points? Are the mounting points strong enough to make an aluminum version worthwhile? It could even have a trap door built in for oil changes...
This would be especially useful for those of us who live in areas prone to snowfall.

EDIT**

I created a new thread for this subject in the FX35 MOD section, fyi.

Could probably be done, but it would still bend outa shape, maybe even easier as the plastic cover has some give. Aluminum would be a mess after a couple of seasons & some debris hits, no?
