HID and LED for Mazda CX-9

I asked my wife if she "would prefer white brighter headlights" and she said "stop spending money on my car."

So, I need some help figuring out what HID and LEDs I need. One thing that is confusing is the high and low beam are different bulbs, so you need to get 2 HID kits unlike ours where it's the same bulb so just one HID kit? Is that how that works? If that is the case then I would probably just want the low beam to be HID, high beam to be just a white bulb non-hid, and the parking light to be LED. Any suggestions on what kit and bulbs to go with?

The headlight assembly of a 2012 Mazda CX-9 contains the following light bulbs with their respective part numbers: Low Beam # H11, High Beam # 9005, Parking Light # 2825.

And by the way, Mazda CX forums appear to be :poop:

How come you didn't get the jX?

We were looking at the new nissan pathfinder, 2011 QX56, JX, and CX-9. CX-9 we landed an incredible deal (they were pushing out the 2012 and got like $15k off the price) from another state....I almost think I can flip it, but we actually love it. It's actually 500% more comfortable than the FX front and rear. The rear literally feels like you are sitting on a couch and the front feels exactly like my huge leather lazy boys. So, I'm gonna be taking this car on long trips.....

Here is my lazy boy in the living room and it feels just like it:

You just need the low beam kit, since the warm up time and the amount of use of the high beams would make it not worth the hid kit for highs. Also, I am not sure about mazda but most projector shields have holes in them to allow light to be projected upwards for signs, these are usually called squirrel finders. Most people block them somehow when installing hid kits into projector hl's.

The FX's come with bi-xenon projectors so like you said the hi and low beam are combined. Being that the CX9 has them separated, you would need two hid kits...a lot of people frown on hid hi beam kits because they're not really practical. HIDs in the hi beams would essentially shorten the life on your kit because you would be constantly flashing (ie turning them on) and then turning them off which goes against the nature of how HIDS are supposed to work. (You're not giving them enough time to warm up).

Lol in summation, save your money and just get the low beam kit that's appropriate for her car as FXLR8 mentioned.

i thought our FX just had a shield that covered the HB to make it into a LB? so basically it always runs hb with shield blocking it to make it lb, when hb engaged that metal piece goes down.. am i wrong ?

^ If that is true, I wonder if anyone has moded it to remove the shield for permanent brights.

you would be driving with high beam and blinding everyone. bad idea. its just like driving with hid retrofit kits in non projecting housings.

I like the CX9, it would make a great Family car, much better than a friggin van (cause I have always hated vans).
Congrats on your choice and deal.

oh yeah we looked at new Siennas new I forgot to mention. That was the only minivan Kim was willing to try out.

Just get a low HID kit and call it good. Surprised the cx9 didn't have HID but I'm almost sure mazda3 had an option for them.

The FX headlight and most current cars with HID's do use a bi-xenon. Basically there's a plunger in there the moves the shield to get high beam. It's the only way that you can have instant high beams. If you had a separate HID system for the high beam, the warmup alone would render them useless most of the time. You can buy a retrofit kit that incorporates just the low beam projector. Or you can retrofit a bi-xenon (even FX-R's) if you wanted to and use the new projector high beam. They make wiring harnesses so that everything would work like stock.

True, but foglights are at least aimed at the ground. Or low enough so they're not usually blinding people.

isn't that what fog lights are?

I didn't say good or bad idea....I was just curious if anyone had.
