Hesitation, studdering, spuddering left me muddering

I bought a preowner fx50s 2009 with 14k. As I drove the car off the lot I felt a hesitation when traveling slow between 1st and 2nd. (hitting multiple stop signs was awlful) Thought since car was in lot,..maybe dealer may have put in some low grade gas. As a week past the hesitation became worst, even as I filled it up with 93 oct. Although studdering and hesitation was minimal,..a few weeks later it got so bad the car would leap up and down. It never happened when on highway. Reading forum solutions, I reset ecu by disconnecting neg battery cable for a few minutes and pumping on brake. It worked fine for a few days(only data lost was automatic power window, but fixed that easily and radio favorites where lost)) but now the problem is back but minimal. Any long term solutions?

Your profile says you have a 2013 FX50S....did you mean 2009?

go to your dealer and make sure you have the latest TSB for the transmission. There has been at least one Trans software update and dramatically improves what you are describing and the word on iS is that another one may be released to the FXs since a similar update has been pushed to other Infiniti models.

Welcome to the site.

Yes,..it's a 2009 fx50s,..new here so I may mess up a little. I will check with the dealer this week about the tranny software update,..sounds promising. I guess it's not a rare problem giving the complex system. The fx50s is a beast of a car though,...love driving this thing anywhere,..to the store or on a open road. The other problem I have is that I often pass on taking my boat out and opt for a cruise in the fx. :) Thanks for response,..will be sure to get back with any news from dealer. ---Another question would be if resetting the ecu as I did, would cause any other car funtion to be reset as well, as the power windows or radio presets? Something I may not notice since I just bought the car.

Resetting the ECU won't fix it. This issue is 100% software related. The lag and hesitation is the transmissions fault. It's programmed to stay in too high of a gear. Coasting and driving around 30-45 mph it's in 6th and 7th gear :at-wits-end:When you want to overtake and accelerate it lags before it finally decides to downshift. Horrible and dangerous to say the least. Especially in fast moving traffic.

disconnecting the negative battery will reset the trans learning, radio presets, windows auto up feature on all 4. Those are the big ones I've always noticed.

Got 2009 fx50s from dealer today,..they had it for 3 days. Mechanic left note that when test driving he noticed the hesitaion. Ran software test and everything was up to date. He came to conclusion that gas tank was 1/4 full and led to problem,..he recommended that car should always have more than 1/4 full tank and hesitation will not accure. They filled it up to half when I took the car and I did not notice hesitation. (no charge,..and they detailed it ) Will run it below 1/4 in a few days and let all now if it comes back. So far,..this is the lamest excuse I ever heard but will go for it til the hesitation comes back,..then I will blow a casket at dealership. Will also call head mech at dealership monday and pick his brain or lack of. Any feedback??

I wait until the red warning light comes on indicating "almost out of gas" all the time (I get $0.50 off per gallon at Kroger gas station for one fill up. The more I put in the more I save). Never have had any hesitation or harsh down shifts! The only thing I had to have done wa the windshield wipers replaced and the dealer here took care of that gratis. I know what your saying about driving this 50S. Its like going down hill on a roller coaster when accelerating full throttle. I have read that its 0 - 60 time is 5 seconds? I have beaten my sons Trailblazer SS (Slightly detuned Corvette engine) easily. Good luck and enjoy!

"down hill on a roller coaster", never thought of it this way :), very interesting

Yeah, def reminds me of Jaguar 12 cylinder,..just hope it's in mech shop alot less. The Jag was in shop more than out. Cutonsider I live in Long Island NY,..there are not to many places to open car up, but the fx50 means business,...It's like a smoking hot chick with a little armpit hair.
