Has anyone plugged in an HDD or any other portable media player into their auxiliary inputs in the console? There's a DIY for disabling the parking brake/speed wire on the 09+ and I thought this would be an easy way to watch movies, look at pictures etc on the oem screen while in the car.

Something like this: Amazon.com: Micca MPlay Digital Media Player For USB Drives and SD/SDHC/MMC Flash Cards - Plays MPEG1/2/4, DivX, Xvid, RMVB, AVI, MOV, MP3, MP4 On All TV and HDTV: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41OKpRMry7L.@@AMEPARAM@@41OKpRMry7L

OR

Amazon.com: Micca Slim Portable Digital Media Player with HDMI and 2.5-Inch HDD Bay - Plays MPEG1/2/4, DivX, Xvid, RMVB, AVI, MOV, MP3, MP4: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/415WRdGRqNL.@@AMEPARAM@@415WRdGRqNL

Just need to get a cigarette lighter power source and should be all set.... You guys think it'll work?

I thought about it. Been looking around for something to work. Is it possible to hook up a dvd player so you can watch it on the screen while driving or just parked ?? I don't have the nav package.

It's been discussed here.. So it should work no problem.. I was just wondering if these little media players actually worked while being jarred during driving; I guess a solid state memory system would be best as opposed to a disc drive.

Neat, thanks for the idea. I might get one depending on how it can playlist. Solid state would be best, but I'd suggest the HD one. You could probably upgrade it with a solid state drive. The flash ones aren't SDXC compatible, and you'd have to get extremely fast flash media for it to not be annoying, so the storage options aren't great.

Was just looking around, and there's lots of options. One problem is a lack of firmware updates, and a limiting interface. I'm looking online at tiny PCs that can run Linux (so SageTV etc.), but the composite input on the FX is really limiting. I wish there was a way to get HDMI or component video (anything) to the screen without a chunky adapter. Edit: I found a USB-powered VGA->Composite/S-Video adapter. It has good reviews, is

Here it is... Pretty simple and straight forward; plug into auxilliary inputs and power with car adapter. Quality is a 9/10; likely dependent on the quality of the media player.. This micca is a $50 with a 500gb 2.5" drive (sold separately)... Didn't have a decent camera with me so bare with the pics and video quality.

Can you play movies while driving without any special mods?

Also, can you play audio mp3s this way without movies?

Nice install. I have been wanting to add a video player. I thought about installing a dvd player in the glovebox but this seems like a more efficient option.

The mod to use the aux while driving is discussed here: ///8068&highlight=speed+wire

With the media player I have, you can watch vids, play music, photos or read docs.

It's more efficient, but also cheaper.. cost $100 with the hard drive.. can get a $50 non-drive version as well... just make sure you can find an adapter..

^^ remote needs line of sight since it's an IR model, if you find one that's an RF unit then that would be best. However, it's difficult to find that type of remote for a media player that also comes with a car adapter.

Just wanted to note that my idea of converting VGA to Composite went badly. It didn't look right, and reconfiguring it made it unusable. I'll be looking into a HD player, thanks for the info.

I have 2011 FX no rear entertainment... How can the RCA ports installed? The holes are already drilled out but caped off.

^^ weird.. I thought all of them came with the aux ports...? Maybe ask the dealer as I thought this was standard.
