Hey folks, So i'm having a major headache w/ my trunk/hatch.

This has happened a few times in the past weeks, but it always manages to work after a few tries closing it....till now.
I go to close it, and it doesn't "latch" closed. I can hear the electric motor working and when i let it try to self close, it pulls the trunk, but doesn't stay shut, it just releases. Also, just to test, i pulled on the trunk while the motor is "closing" it and it has full resistance, like it is pulled in place, but then it just releases again.

I did a search and the closest thing i found was the member from edmonton whose trunk was stuck closed and it turned out to be screw bits caught in the actuator. My rear window was smashed last halloween and glass fell into the door assembly. This problem never happened b4 that. But then again, it did not happen right after either. I'm just wondering if maybe some glass managed to work its way down into the motor/actuator over time and is preventing full closure. I dunno.

Took it to dealership who said that its probably something wrong w/ the acuator and i will likely need a new one. BUT it still works. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Such a "minor" thing, but such a significant pain in the arse, not driving while every 2 seconds the "door open" indicator goes off. yeesh.

Thanks team,
j

It sounds reasonable to me that a piece of glass could be blocking the latch from fully engaging. Considering your window was smashed out and this is an extremely rare issue, I'd say it's likely. Pull it apart and find out.

So I popped it open, not easy to see into where the mechanism/gears are, but didn't appear to be anything obstructing anything. The motor engages when the latch is touched and nothing grinds or anything.
I think something, ie. a spring or connection is just broken or "off". Either way, can't get in to see the mechanics of it. Bloody hell. effing sux. So i used some thin rope to tie the hatch from the inside to the back of the metal tie down on the rear seat.

Gonna have to book appt w/ dealer and let them deal with it. I have a bumper to bumper aftermarket warranty that should def. cover it, but i know sometimes they are a pain to deal with. That, and its gonna be a $100 deductible and an afternoon without the ride. Either way, sucks.

I hate the fact that if the motor or electric assist close fails in any way, then it cannot be closed, period. The latching mechanism is connected to the assist and i can't think of a way around it. Overall, I always thought our electric assist close is pretty useless/retarded, imho. It is pretty crappy that the more gizmos and stuff only result in more bs to deal with....
bahh.

Could always b worse, i guess.

Let me know how this worked out for you, i have the same issue happening rirht now. I have been fiddling with my hatch for 3 days now.
I havve to slam it while holding the button for it to close and secuer without the "door open" sensor going off. And even that works sometimes, its just annoying.
I need to take it to the dealer and it is out of warranty so i know its gonna cost $$$.
The part that really sux is that i cant lock the doors when the hatch is open.

check the latch mabe a pice broke off that grabs the hook

check the fuse 15 A ( center of the lower row) Fuse box in drivers legs compartment. I had the same. And after replacing no issues.

UPDATE:

Short version:

Trunk closing assembly eff'd, door lock actuators eff'd, fuel line dampeners eff'd.
- total parts (trunk = 497, door locks = ~450, FL dampeners = ~500)
- much to dealership and back to get issues resolved
- at dealer now getting all parts replaced, covered under aftermarket warranty!

= happy fx owner again.

Longer version:

sorry took so long folks, lifes been a pain, not to mention the fact that i couldn't arm my alarm cuz the trunk sensor indicates it is open...

Anyhow, what a serious pain in the arse. I have the used car warranty which i paid 3200 for a year and a half ago when i bought the fx and was told all major dealerships would accept it. BTW, i bought the ride from abbotsford nissan (which is ~45-an hour and a half depending on traffic from vancouver, where i live).

SO, after many calls to closer dealers (ie. Morrey infiniti), it quickly became apparent that they did not want to deal with the warranty work as it was not listed as a company they use. The parent company is "INDS".
So i got on the horn with Nissan where i bought it as i figured they would do it but it would be a pain to go back and forth to Abbotsford.

Well this is how it went down:

- 1 trip out here to get it diagnosed 3.5 weeks ago as follows:
a) the trunk acuator and close assembly was quite simply shot (rare i know), something to do with the spring and the motor.
b) my door lock acuators (driver/passenger were only working intermittently), which i know is more common.
c) Fuel line dampeners (engine was making a muffled "machine-gun" like sound, nothing major but slightly annoying nevertheless).

- all in all, the service dept stated they are all faulty and should be covered by warranty but will have to call and request authorization. Grand total is ~$1500 in parts (the trunk assembly thing was $467), one whole piece, can't get separate internals for it).

- call back 3 days later indicating that because of the size of the claim, INDS wants to send inspector to confirm warranty coverage = another trip out to Abby, drop off car, put me in courtesy for the weekend.

- another trip back the following monday to drop off courtesy and get car (fx not fixed yet because dealer can't order parts till authorized by INDS)

- call back 2 days from service dept advising all parts will be covered (save for the $100 deductable)!

- back at dealer today getting fx taken care of, whew.

Also, my driver seat either fell off the right track or there is something caught in it, but it won't move forward or back, apparently our seats are a pain to take out and put back in (1.5 hrs or so?) and this is not covered as the motor works fine.
As i just wanna get it fixed (my gf can't even drive the fx when i need her to, ie. when i have a few bevy's, she's short), i spoke to the GM here who agreed he'd cover half the labour to address the seat (labour = 102/hr).
So pretty satisfied bout that. I'm currently sitting at the dealer typing this, can't wait to have my trunk working again!!!!!

Happy with the way I've been treated here, not they're fault i had to bring the ride back multiple times, just the process that needed to be done.
ALSO, i was owed a extra ikey (fx only came with one) and the previous manager noted on the bill of sale they would get me one. He had since been let go, and when i called to inquire (months back), i was told (by another manager) that the agreement was btw the old manager and me and he could not do anything about it. Anyhow, spoke to the GM when i came in 3 weeks ago, showed him my contract and he immediately ordered me a new ikey, which they will be coding today as well.

Thank you Abbotsford Nissan.

Georstan:

ps.

u can lock the doors by pressing the lock button on the inside of the door when exiting the vehicle, but u cannot arm it. If it does arm, it means the trunk sensor is "closed" but chance it will "unclose" from the sensor resulting in alarm going off, potentially for a long time (ie. underground parking), i found this out the hard way.

JigJag... thanks bro
I have been riding with the sensor going off for a while now... fukn anoying:mad:

The good thing is i live in AZ so Infiniti Parts USA is a short drive away. I plan on getting the latch $361 and installing it myself, hope its not too hard, and i bought a manual.

It seems that a lot more or these FX's are having the same issue right around the 95000 mile mark...

Anyway, wish me luck, times are hard and i love my FX so its time 4 me to get busy myself save a few$$

Wis i still had the factory warranty, that was the best, and i didn't get the extended from the dealer cause it seemed like there was more things uncovered than covered...

But im glad yours is getting:tup: fixed, good luck

I actually had a problem with the trunk not shutting and locking either... some times it woudnt even open after i locked it. Turns out it was the passenger door locking mechanism. The passenger door controls the trunk. It was covered by warranty but a major hassle
