H8 HID XEON vs HID Incandecent vs LED

HI,

I'm newbie here. I just purchased a used 2009 FX35. I'm extremely happy with it, besides miles/gallon performance (13 mpg@city avg). No even close to specs. But that's another topic.

Anyway, I willing to start with my first project changing fog lights to HID one. Doing search here I found some happy stories with HID Xeon mod kits and some no so good because of Xeon bulb life lasting.

I'm looking some feedback about Incandecent and LED HID's (just bulb replacement). Are LED a good option? I willing to do the work, but avoid any re-do because of poor performace product.

Please advise or point me to a discussion thread.

If your talking about the headlights, they are already HID.

If your talking about the fog lights go with this place:

They make some good HID kits for the fog lights. Don't do LED since their still not bright enough. HID's are brighter.


And don't be surprised by your MPG's in the city. I only get about 13-14 MPG in the city too.
 
I tried 6K LEDs and while they look bright from close up, the actual light output is close to 0, I quickly changed them to HID from DDM and they are great, HID all the way.
 
Yah i just ordered the 4500k slim ballasts from DDM.. i'll post pics once i get them installed this weekend. Im super stoked. I already have 5k morimotos in my headlights, but i didn't want the fogs to match. I wanted the OEM, but much brighter look.
 
I hear these slim ballasts aren't what they are cracked up to be. A hid kit with an external ignitor? Wouldn't trust that.
