h11 Bulb for fogs

So i went to buy new fog bulbs today to match the headlights better.

Anyways the guy at the store told me that h11 bulbs and h8 bulbs are the same thing. Since they did not have h8 i bought the h11s. When i came home to install them i noticed that they dont fit. One of the metal pieces on the bulb are too big to be screwed in (see picture). I was wondering if it was safe to trim the piece outlined in green about 2mm

yeah im going to try to exchange them tom... i just wanted to get it done tonight. My personality is once i start something, i must finish it that day lol.. unless its a huge project

That little piece you wanted to cut is what locks the bulb in place. Return them and get the right bulbs.

I'm the same way. But when it comes to lighting, you want to make sure everything seals and locks properly. Or else you'll have moisture in the housing.
