Hey guys:

We are thinking about making some custom lowering spring for the FX35/45. I do have the stock spring now, and want to know what are some of the demanded spec from the community ?

We will be sending out the spring to either SWIFT Japan or Hyperco USA, both are very reputable company.

Any suggestion and request, just post here. Example, spring rate, drop length etc will help us out in making the spring.

Thanks !

i might be interested depending on the price..

i would be interested in springs that drop as much as eibach's but retain comfort of stock ride or even better.

thanks gtspec!

btw if ya need a test mule, im not too far away :)

Make them a bit lower than the comparable H&R and Eibach springs if possible. I don't mind a sacrificed ride quality if that is the result. I can guarantee you would sell a boat load of them if this is the case b/c many don't want to spend $1k on on coil-overs, and many others can't justify $250 for not THAT much of a drop. Thanks!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for posting. Here is my feedback.

1) Progressive Spring Rate
2) H&R drop is 1.3" front, 1.2" rear. Eibach is 1.2" front and rear. Intrax is 1.8" front and rear.

For GT Spec springs, I suggest 1.5" front and rear drop. You will be close to the limit of safely using the OEM Struts/Shocks without dramatically shortening the life of them. Intrax is too much of a drop for stock struts/shocks as you will probably bottom out, and your alignment will be out of OEM specs.

Also, anything around 1.3" and 1.2" drop, you will have competition from H&R and Eibach. Drop farther than 1.5", you will have competition with Megan and BC Coil overs.

I'm assuming you want to bring this out to differentiate your product with drop height and still retain OEM struts/shocks, as there are no aftermarket ones that are shorter that we can use.

3) Anything farther than a 1.3" front drop will most likely require a front camber adjustment bolt. Probably wouldn't be too hard for you to come up with, if not, H&R and Eibach both make one.

4) Rear, anything more than a 1.2" drop will require a camber/toe kit. None available unless you slot your own sub frame. Would be nice if GTSpec made one specific to the FX. I wouldn't switch from H&R's unless you came out with a rear kit to be able to stay in factory specs. I don't want my tires worn uneven and many of us can't rotate tires due to staggered offset, directional tires, different lip sizes, etc...

Here are my alignment specs with H&R's, 1.3" front and 1.2" rear drop. Obviously differs on all cars, but gives you an idea. I have no uneven wear on my tires:

I think you just explained H&R springs:wink: Okay, H&R drops .1" more in the front.

i found your post interesting, cause from pictures it seems as if the eibachs drop lower than h&r's... hmm weird

Some variables, weight of car (gas, items, V8 vs V6, etc...), tire height, can play how the car actually sits.

I'm just posting the manufacturer specs. I've never seen a significant different between H&R's and Eibach's unless you count someone with a smaller tire diameter.

At install drop numbers are consistent with Chedman's post. Eibach springs employ the "sag factor" and tend to drop over time. H&R's hold fairly close to original install dimensions as they age.

You forgot the "snap factor".

Tis true. There may also be some FX45s running the FX35s H&R springs (and vice versa) which could skew some of the drops.

oooooh snap.....! Insta-slam. Do like the thought of marketing a spring that falls between the not so useable 1.8" of the Intrax and the comparable drop of the Eibach and the H&R springs while maintaining ride quality......at an entry level price.

This would be a good compromise and alternative! But 45's do drop a bit more than 35's due to some added weight but I agree there are slight variables that will affect the overall drop from one vehicle to the other.
