2009 FX50S
Hi guys,
just picked one up used. So I have no instructions.
I have the two side engine shrouds removed ...how does the main middle cover off ??? Is there a screw or clip somewhere ???
Also, do I just remove the 3 bolts, slip this on , then put the bolts back on top of the new brace ? Is there a recommended torque amount ?

Thank you

Did you search? I have a DIY posted on here.

Main middle cover comes off after you remove the oil cap and just give it a firm tug. it just clips in place....

Mine didn't come with instructions either but yeah you just take off the bolts, put this in, and put the bolts back in. hand tight is fine.
"Make sure you do not over torque the 3 strut tower nuts on each side. The factory recommended torque is only 22 ft-lbs."
Also remember the bracket goes on top of the black gaskets for it to clear everything, and DO NOT jack up your car to install this.

good luck!

Thanks Jbaker,
Excellent write up !!! I did get all of the covers off ;)
i will drop into a mechanic for the mount.

Seems some leave the OEM gasket in place , some do not.
hmmmm, hehe. I really want the covers to fit back on well.

You're going to take it to a mechanic? Hopefully he doesn't charge you too much. You can do it yourself if you're the least bit handy.

The covers all fit back in place just fine. The bar rubs the center engine cover a tiny bit. Some shave the foam, some don't I didn't and it's fine. (been on there for about a year with no iddues)

I would say drive down to buffalo and I'll help but I have finals and stuff coming up then Im back home near NYC, lol

Really, thanks for the offer man. I will report back hopefully completed later today.
Good luck with Finals !!

Install went fine and it is now mounted. I have not put back the covers back as it looks like it needs cleaning !!
Whats the take on engine Shampoo or steam cleaning that these car care companies offer ?? Dangerous ?

Am I better off to just get some spray degreaser and do it my self ?

Thanks !!

sometimes there is no harm engine shampooing and steaming if the person is performing is knowledgeable. What i did to my own engine was use a foam spray degreaser with water wash. You can do it, take your time and dont keep the water in one place especially around the alternator, coils, sensors and you will be fine. Also careful not to get by the battery and inside air intake filter

Thanks Dracula,
I may give this a shot. First I will wrap electrical tape tightly around the connectors where the wire bundle enters. What I do not have is compressed air that this shop offers to force dry quickly. ;(

i got the white line strut bar dont really like it, fitment is poor. how do u guys like the GTspec one?
