Buy Sell Fix Trade... I work on vehicles for the love of them and also try to make a few bucks to support my family.. Already had a bad nissan cvt nightmare on a cube now the dream has a round two on my fx45 infiniti...

ENGINE TAPPING KNICKING TOP PASSENGER SIDE COLD START and AFTER ENGINE BRAKE... P0011/P0021 !!! HELP!!! Bought it at auction very low oil... put 2 quarts in still little low drove it home anyway granny style... filled tires up that fixed the shake in steering...added brake fluid and drove it to work 90miles.. did great... planned on oil flush in the am but on way home it made a noise after a harsh engine brake "testing the auto slap" now its tapping real loud at start up... i flushed oil w 5w30 high miles stp synthetic and matching filter.. still taps.. louder and faster w revs... it did stall once while moving it out the driveway prior to oil change... it does have the p0011/p0021 codes so im going to swap cam sensors to rule them out but that will likely not fix the tapping because i assume the damage is done... my question is has anyone torn into the head and fixed this issue...?? is it a valve stuck?? lifter?? fuel dampener (premium only since i had it)?? cams?? and do i need a re-learn after i swap cam sensors?? any advise will help...thanks!!

i bought this car to flip but have fallen in love with her after driving it.. and plan on keeping her around for awhile if i can bring her back to life!!

The VK has been known to use up oil, but usually not too bad at 90K... Cam sensors were a more normal problem in the VQ, but I guess it could affect the VK as well... Cam sensor problems usually resulted more in stalling than any noise... There is an issue with a VERY LOUD startup after short starts and stops (like moving the VK in and out of the driveway) but that doesn't sound like the issue you're having either...

Check your oil level again, just to make sure you're not using too much... And if your oil level is still good, it actually might be that you put in TOO much oil... I now remember something about the VK vibrating if you add too much oil... You might be able to do a search about it but I don't remember the exact specifics as I have a VQ...

Pretty much sounds like your FX has a diesel engine and you'll think something broke inside...

Goes away after a while but it happens when you do very short starts and then stops again, and then the sound will occur the next time you start the car... You may or may not see a lot of white smoke out the tail pipes... Not sure if there's a thread about it on here...
