FX35 front cooling vent

Improve the cooling? Those pieces are for the intake on the 350Z. Some people have done something similar on the FX to create a "ram air" effect to the airbox.

Stu is right - that's an intake duct, not for cooling.

However, yes it should work exactly the same as the 350Z duct if you can route it to the filter box. I sort of have this working for my FX - but I removed the fog lights. Not because I wanted to, but because the IC pipes were in the way. Now the hole is about 8" away from my filter element so it really does function as a duct.

What you want to avoid is allowing free air around the radiator - instead of directing it through the radiator. If you simply open a hole to the engine bay, you'll could actually hurt cooling. Ducting the intake to this vent would be the best way if you want to go this route.

Oh yea i forgot to ask you brad about your Fog lights ... i guess you already answered that :P ... yea i guess those fog's must be giving "some" kind of effect ... then again i never want to remove my fog lights ... come to think of it i hope the piping from the superchager kit does not force me to do that:eek.:

Yea what i was thinking of having a vent made out of fiberglass that would actually curve the incoming air towards my radiator in some way .... since the new intercooler is much larger that the stock setup from vortech .... there must be some way to increase the air coming to the radiator:confused.:

I kinda like the idea, it might give it a better look i think .... i hope :P

Are you having cooling problems?

You won't need it. Even with a FMIC, your radiator will get plenty of air. If you're worried about cooling problems, the only real solution is a bigger radiator and bigger fans. I've hardly ever seen cooling be an issue on a car with an SC. When I had a vortech on my previous car, the coolant temps were only a tiny bit higher than without boost. If you had a turbo, it might be a bigger issue. But even then it's not as big as everyone thinks it might be. Swapping from vortech to turbo on my old car only raised the coolant temps mildly and that was probably because of the proximity of the downpipe to the radiator.

On my wife's old turbo Integra, we really did have a cooling issue. That was only because we swapped a Civic radiator in for the factory due to space constraints (and the manifold/turbo on those cars sits 4" behind the radiator. The temp gauge would just climb at idle. Once the car was moving, it was totally normal. That problem was fixed by a larger capacity Fluidyne and bigger fans, not a cooling duct.

oh nooo im not having cooling problems (knock on wood)
Im just trying to prepare my vehicle for my superchager kit that is going to be installed within 2 weeks  .... Im just trying to maximise my cooling

I guess your right ... the car will not have any cooling problems ... but i dont think it will hurt if i do in fact create another path for air to enter towards the radiator ... its not an expensive modd (when compared to a new radiator and bigger fans:laugh:) ... oh yea my mechanic said he is going to adjust the thermostat so the fan starts a about 15 degrees less than stock ... guess that would kinda help ...

Once my car is done in 2 weeks (seriously cant sleep ... time passes sooo slowly) i will create a new thread with everything i have done ... looks like im going to go through with this vent idea ... and will give you feedback once it is all done ... videos will be up as soon as i can !!!

^^^ here is a pic of my car ^^^
Im not so good with photoshop so i will try use words to show you .... the bottom right side of the grill (the "right" of the pic not the car .... the drivers side) i want to place the grill somwere close to that were the bumper curves outwards when getting closer to the fog lights ... hope i kinda made my self clear:wub: .... what do you guys think? is there a better place to put it?

If you do it I think two symmetrical vents (one on each side) would look better than just one of them. especially if it was color matchedThe only problem I see is finding the space to duct the air toward the radiator. That spot you want is pretty packed behind the bumper and the radiator is really close to the bumper...

In the interest of a cool mod and the DIY spirit, I say "go for it". Good luck!

The reason the z's have that vent to add on is because they dont have a huge front girlle like we do..you can do the same thing just by running the vent opening behind the grille.
It's going to look terrible.

This is what that is for:

Provides an opening for air that can travel straight to the filter. That square cutout before the intake box is stock, and adding the vent allows a direct path of air from the front.

The 'power duct' on the first gen essentially is air straight-to-the-filter from the grille.

Thnks tchuck :smile (2): ... yea i checked today and your right, it is pretty packed behind the bumper ... but i only checked for a few seconds ... im going to take a look again soon to try and see if its possble ... yea i was actually thinking of adding two vents ... but your right i guess if i colour match them they would look better :wink (2):

Just an idea though, i could utilize the idea of the 350z vents, one of the vents could be used to vent air to the vortech supercharger ... and the other on the other side sould be used to vent air to the radiator ... again its just an idea ... im guna have to check it up behind my bumper ..... see even if there is any space for the vent ... it will all change after the piping for the superchager kit is in place ... i guess we will have to see

Oh and oh yea if this works im definetly starting a DIY thread for this:wub:

^^ My main concern is not looks at the moment ... the reason i started this thread is to find a way to improve cooling ... hopefully this modd will do just that .... and hey if it ends up looking good, i hope others will start doing the same:tup::tup:

(especially the guys with F/I setups:laugh:)
