FX35 and tire chains

I have a FX35 2009 AWD, standard vanilla; Wanted to buy and use tire chains or tire cables (class S) on both front and rear.

The owners manual says: Tire chains must be installed only on the rear
wheels and not on the front wheels.

What's the rationale for this limitation? Shall I ignore it or heed it?

Thanks a lot for your help.

O.k. I will ask....? Why will you need tire chains in NYC????

Even with AWD you're only supposed to use one set of chains and on the front? That's strange because most of the power is sent to the rear wheels right?
