FX-35 spark plug change

Wow, my dealer wants $863. to change the spark plugs on my 2004 FX-35. This seems a little expensive. Any postings on how to do this? There is a lot of plastic and hoses to remove to get to the plugs.

WTH? $800+? Havent changed them in my fx but judging on other cars it shouldn't take you more then 2 hrs to do. By yourself.

Did the change myself on my 45 and took about 2 hours. But you have better have some tools to do this. May be easier on the 35 with easier access to the plugs but on the 45 the rear 2 plugs were very difficult to get to due to the extreme angle. Needed a long flexible extension socket piece to get at it.

It took me about an hour and some change to do them on my FX35, I have the Denso Iridium. They are not that hard to do as long as you have the right tools.

just checked out that DIY on driver, props to the guy for writing that up, really detailed and easy to follow. OP just do that and you will have successfully saved $800 lol

I change the plugs on an FX35 this past weekend without disconnecting the battery. No problem whatsoever.

That's what I thought I have never had to disconnect a battery the hundreds of times I have changed plugs on other vehicles.

Unplugging your battery is like something that every DIY says. Just like using jackstands. Just in case someone is a knuckle head and hops underneath their car without anything sturdy supporting it.

The spark plugs are a bit challenging to change, but certainly can be a DIY job by an average weekend wrench. I installed them in my 04 FX35 at about 104,000 miles. The only issue was two of the spark plug wells (one on each side) closest to the firewall had a small amount of oil in them. Not a big leak, but clearly there should not be oil in the wells that contains the spark plugs. After a little research i learned the oil seals that surround the spark plugs in the valve cover gaskets deteriorate over time and begin to leak. Ultimately ordered new OEM valve covers online and replaced them myself for about $450 in parts. Independent shop wanted close to $1,000. Took me the better part of a Saturday, but i enjoyed the challenge and saved about $500!

Took me about an hour to change the spark plugs. Make sure you have an extended socket adapters. It comes in handy especially on plug no 6.
