Fuel Grade

I recently bought a 2017 QX50 and wondering if it’s mandatory to run only premium fuel in the vehicle?

Has anyone tried regular or mid grade fuel on their QX50? Any ill effects running lower grade fuels through the engine?

Thoughts???

You can run regular, but you probably will save a little money running premium since your MPG will be better.

If you run regular gas your car's ECM will retard the timing on the engine so that detonation will not occur due to the lower octane which will result in less performance = less fuel mileage. Running premium fuel is only about what, $6-$7 more per tank? Stick with what Infiniti intended to run the car with.

What he said...

New owner of an awd ex37. I am getting an average of 11.5/100 and have seen a best of 8.6/100.for fuel economy. What are you all getting. On a aside note in the central display under fuel economy historyhow do you get the past previous bars to populate.I only have the one on the far right and the one next to it.All others show nothing. TTYL

MPG varies also depending on each person's driving habit though the statement of "getting more miles out premium gas" is true. Since the engine adjust itself anyways, why don't you try one full tank of 87 and one full tank of 93 to see if it really makes a difference based on ur driving habits. While you are at it, I'd also calculate how many mile per dollar to really see how much you save.
But I can tell you tho, as far as performance goes, the VQ really appreciates high octane fuel. I have personally used Octane 103+/- and did notice some differences.

Sorry, I'm not really complaing about using 93 octane or the price.I am just wanting to know what other members are getting for mpg. I figured out the center display mpg average and getting the other bars to populate.I will not be putting any fuel other than premium in my tank as that is what Infiniti states is required.

FX37, 14.2 L/100 KM; almost all of it stop and go city driving.

This certainly isnt scientific by any means, but I drove our 2017 QX50 from Huntsville, AL to the Orlando, Fl area a couple of weeks ago. We used premium (93) all the way down and because fuel prices at the time in FL were wayyyyy higher there than here (right after the monsoons that flooded South Florida making fuel distribution in the state a problem), we ran regular (87) all the way back and the on-board fuel monitor showed almost identical numbers... 26.8 on the way down and 26.7 on the return at 80 mph on the interstates. And yes, I did reset the computer prior to return. Didnt really notice any performance difference either. Don't know what kind of issues may develop over the long term, though.
