Recently had battery die in '07 FX35. Had someone jump start me to get home. The fuel gauge needle rounded 360 degrees and rested on the right side of the needle stop. I found a few suggestions advising to manually pull the needle back around using a piece of wire. On older models, someone suggested going through the trip meter hole. On my '07 there is not a hole in the cluster face.
This ended up being a simple fix... maybe 30min, $0. Not much of a "write-up", but pics should help if your needle jumps to the wrong side of the stop. Remove lower steering column covers, loosen upper "U" shaped steering column cover (screw behind ignition switch). Just removing screws from upper trim gives enough room to access the bezil edge. My bezil face pulled loose enough to run a peice of safety wire down to pull the needle back to the left side. Fixed!
