Fuel Economy

:tup:It's been a while since I've posted anything and this is a repeat. I average about 14.5mpg. I want to get better fuel economy. The suggestion from past threads have been, easing off on the throttle, install CAI, and a lowering kit. I did install the Stillen CAI and I get about .5mpg better fuel economy.

  1. I'm looking for 2-3 mpg increase.
  2. Is it possible?
  3. Lowering Kit - mpg gain?
  4. Catback exhaust? mpg gain?
  5. Full exhaust, supercharge, ECU, etc., mph gain?
I have been looking at smaller cars, but I have gear I haul around for work and need a hatchback, also I need all-wheel drive as I have a mountain region. The Subura WRX STi averages 21mpg, but at a cost of $30-35K, doesn't seem worth it. Ron

*try a fuel injector cleaner in the FX for a few tanks of gas.

*get a tune up (ie change spark plugs , etc)

*change to synthetic oil

*get a wheel alignment

the lowering and exhaust system will be small increases to MPG

Also the amount (weight) of the stuff you haul around also affects your MPG. the suby has a base of 21, thats with it unloaded.

I don't know how much you'll be able to improve. Hauling around gear and driving up and down through mountains aren't helping anything.

+1...the only sure fire way to get the most out of your mpg is to change your driving style and keep off the throttle as much as possible, do more highway driving and try to avoid going uphill as much as possible.

My gear doesn't weigh that much, just bulky. The mountain driving is highway and I get 18-20mpg in that setting. But overall, with city/hwy, I'm lucky to average 15mpg. I'll try the injector cleaner and the plugs have never been changed. I took it in for a 50K check up and all these did was change the oil, there was nothing wrong with the car. I use premium fuel. I don't use synthetic oil, I use whatever the shop puts in.

Whats the best lowering kit? I seem to remember something about a plenum kit.
