front suspension

somewhat speaking from ignorance but for more drop up front couldn't you modify bottom of front strut mounts another 1/2" or so?

Which part are you talking about lowering? Just an example pic, or are you talking about the spring perch on the stock strut?

if you mean the where the strut mounts on the spindle, 4wd the strut can't come down much on the spindle because it'll hit the axle...

yes where front strut attaches to spindle, looks like have enough room to move 1/2" or so unless I am missing something

last time I looked it seemed pretty tight, maybe 1/2" max, if that even. I thought the same thing but after looking at it, didn't seem like much potential there, didn't even look like I could get 1/2" there from what I remember... I've been thinking more of trying to find a shorter strut maybe...

Probably not worth the hassle, compared to lowering springs. You might get a 1:1 ratio but 1/2" isn't much of a difference.

already has eibachs, wanted a little more up front and cutting 1/2 coil is almost as much work as adjusting brackets but still keep sspension?????

I did the cut with h&r's, 1/2 coil... would be nice to get another inch or so but like you said, as the spring gets cut the ride quality suffers... cutting more would be too stiff I think... I'n tempted to try another 1/4 coil... also thinking maybe eibachs with 1/2 coil may be better....

If I have time will experiment this weekend, is my wifes car will have to steal it for a little bit

1/2 coil was not too dramatic of a diffierence in stiffness, noticable but not excessive... def a good move I think... way better than thinking about screwing with the strut-spindle mounting point

Looked at this morning, could make brackets pretty easy but would have to be careful welding to original to keep new holes true to spindle alignment and such. If spring seat was lower that would work also but cannot weld on main section of strut. What about Inrax ? says 1.8"

hey man, just had my fx on a lift doing brakes & I looked at this again. your right, there is a lot of room that this can come down, more than I originally thought. maybe up to an inch & 1/2 even, as the bracket that mounts to the spindle from the strut extends down a bit & can be cut for more clearance. to do all this for 1/2" I originaly thought maybe not worth it, but up to 1.5 definatley would be...

looking at this I think it can be done if an upper bracket extension is made above the existing, wrapped around the strut tube & then welded only to the oe bracket off the strut. that could be done. I would do it over a bucket of water & every 1/2" or so dunk it, then dry it & weld again, as long as there isn't enough heat to warp the tube or damage the seals it should be no problem,

another 1.5" with no sacrifice in ride quality would be sweet. I'm thinking maybe to try this with a new set of struts... I would make the top hole adjustable too with a cam bolt like the rear so absolute perfect angle would be a little less critical & alignment wouldn't be an issue...

another alternative I thought might be feasable would be to use a strut from another car, but the difference would probably be too great, I want to look at the g struts or m & see what possibilities there are there, the g or m spring would be too low spring rate, but maybe a g or m strut with an fx spring? haven't really seen any g/m struts, wonder if there similar design & mounting to the fx...

G/Z and M configs are different. I've looked at them. :)

The Muranos are the same bolt up location and use the same front sway end link mounting style.

yeah, but murrano is probably the same overal length too?. I think I like this idea of modding the strut to get a bit more out of it... I might try & get a set of struts & try this... a little lower would be good, I hate the jacked up feeling.

what are you using in your fronts? are they bag over strut like shockwaves or something? are they a readily available application?

I to took another look, have just been busy with other things. Just need time and little courage to pull struts and work something up.
