Hey guys,
I did my first oil change in my driveway this weekend. Up until now i had been going to the stealship. I looked in the repair manual that I bought it says that the 04 fx35 takes 4.7 quarts with a new filter. I went ahead and did the 4.7 quarts and then checked the level and it looks like it is WICKED high for some reason. How much oil do you guys use? Also, what is with the placement of the oil dipstick?! that thing is tucked WAY in there and couldn't be any more of a pain in the ass to check and replace.

don't forget to replace the drain plug crush washer. I bought some from Nissan dealer

Did you get all the old oil out? Pour the old oil into the new container and see how much you removed. Easier if you buy the 5 quart bottles.

Also after doing the oil change start the car, let it run for a few minutes...shut it off and let it sit for 30 minutes on a level surface and check it again.

I hate the dip stick position on our car. I hate it even more with LMS CAI. Talk about a pain to reach it. Last time I took my car to oil change the mechanic said that the car only took about 4.5 to 4.7 quarts of Mobile 1 oil and filter. When I checked the oil level it was where it should be.

I buy my Mobil 1 at costco and then have Metro Infiniti do the labor for me.

so i checked my oil today before going to lunch and everything looks good. i could probably even go ahead and add that last 1/4 of a quart just for good measure, as there is room there for more. so yea, 5 quarts is good. not sure what the hell was going on yesterday. i think maybe the oil was fresh and was somehow wicking up the dipstick. the oil is slightly dirty now, as it has been used for 50 miles, so it was easy to see where the level was.

if you checked it before you started the car after an oil change it'll read high... once you start it the oil filter will fill up & stay filled, that accounts for the difference...

Well i started the car and rolled it off the ramps. then let it run for about 3 minutes. then checked.

After you turn the car off you would have to wait for the oil to drain back into the pan before checking... 15-30 minutes is what I normally wait.
