First Gen Bad U Joint

Ok I took my FX in for some noise that I was hearing riding beside buildings. Anyway I took it in and I need a u-joint. Unfortunately to purchase the u-joint it comes with a driveshaft. I can't believe I can't find a u-joint anywhere:mad.:. I did find a draftshaft on infinti parts USA which is about half the price of the dealer. Anyway, let me know if you know where I can pick up a u-joint.

Same problem here. The stealership wanted 700+ for the whole driveshaft. I cna't believe they don't make replaceable u-joint for this SUV.

Figure there would be a u-joint suplier that Infiniti buys them from. Just need to find one.

I might have to cough up the money if the vibration gets any worse or I'll end up spending more than the price of the driveshaft. I heard horrow storoes about driveshaft u-joint failure.

Could you describe the vibration? I am having what could almost be described as a buzzing sound from the back. I was just wondering if that could be the U-joint.

The best way to confirm that the u-joints are going is to put the truck on a ramp and manually check the joints by trying to check for free movement. Good joint will not budge while bad joint will have some freeplay when you check for looseness.

The symptom when driving is at slow speed you will feel and hear the vibration that almost seemed like the sound is from a lopsided tire. But if you shift your body towards the center of the truck you can feel that the vibration is right under you running along the centerline of the truck. But as you speed up the vibration will speed up and eventually seemed to disappear at certain cruising speed. Around 70MPH the vibration seemed to be gone.

Guys, can you show me up what u-joint is?

Its the cross shaped joint at each end of the drive shaft

Unfortunatly Nissan/Infiniti do not sell U joints for most of their vehicles requiring you to buy an entire driveshaft.

If you could find a local shop that specializes in driveshafts thay may beable to replace the joint for you.
