Engine sounds horrible.

If I drive with the windows down I can hear my engine and it sounds like crap. The exhaust sounds great but the engine not so much. It's been like this since new. Can someone else with an 09 confirm this is normal or not?

Basically, imagine how an engine sounds when it's cold with lifter clicks.

My engine sounds fine.
It is not normal for your engine to sound like crap.

Ok, crap is probably a little to harsh. It just sound like the engine never warms up to the point where the lifter clicks goes away.

My engine has more clicks than that African language, and I assumed it was normal. Nah, but really, you should get that checked out asap.

This may be unpopular to say but-

Our VQ engine is not what it used to be. In its first iteration back in 1995 it was as smooth as butter - but it was designed to be a 3 liter 195 hp engine.

My 3.5 altima is a noisy rough piece compared to my 97 maxima.
My FX seems quieter than my alty but still alittle noisy at idle.

Every year Nissan blows it out a little more - it makes what 332 hp now in the HR version.

Also its very telling that the VQ did not make Wards ten best this year for the first time in over a decade.

All that aside- it still puts a big grin on my face every time I get on it.

I still love the VQ's unique exhaust note though :ehh:

I'm actually very surprised two motors did not make the list:

Nissan's VR38DETT

Mitsubishi's 4B11T

Both are powerhouses for their respective displacement, but I feel like fuel economy played a HUGE roll in this list. The reason I bring up those two motors is because of BMW's twin turbo I-6 being on the list twice...

I don't think its the VR38DETT fuel economy- amazingly GTR is rated at 16/21.

As for the VQ wards has been complaining for a long time about the noise vibration and harshness.

But you're right there is no better exhaust note.

SHIT :-( mine does same :-( :bomb:

How to fix????????

lmao I swear you guys are so paranoid it's not even funny.

I just got watching a Youtube video someone posted cause they thought the G37 coupe exhaust wasn't suppose to sound the way it does. And demanded the exhaust to be changed under warranty to a quieter exhaust.

If you ever come to So.Cal give me a call and I've give you a ride in my car. Then you can hear for yourself. It sounds different than it did before.

A little history... My car just turned 49,000 miles and its under 2 years old. I start and shut off the car over 30 times a day. I drive the car fairly hard so it sees the higher end of the rpm range quite often.

My car sees more wear than most. Its not that I'm paranoid, I hear noises in the valve train that wasn't there before.
