Engine rev's up when braking

Hey guys,

Ive been noticing something peculiar on my 2011 fx35. When in Drive sport mode, occasionally when I go and hit the brake, the engine roar's and rev's up for a split second and lurches forward before braking.

This happens only in drive sport mode and not in regular drive mode. I don't use the manual shifting either, just the drive sport and this happens.

Has anyone ever noticed this phenomenon?

Thanks!

I'm not really an auto junkie, by could it be that as you brake, the car is downshifting for a quicker stop? Plus, I know that the 09+ models have more gears, so the change in gears could be sensitive?

Yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking too goldmage.

I'm just hoping other's have experienced this too and I'm not alone haha

This is totally normal in sport mode it's called downshift rev matching. Basically the car blips the throttle when braking to keep the RPM's up.

So basically when it downshifts, it ups the engine speed (RPM) to match the transmission speed when you downshift, giving you a smoother shift, sportier sound and feeling, and just that extra boost of power you need when you let off the brake pedal to push on the accelerator pedal. This comes in handy when driving on twisty roads during spirited driving and you floor it and you come around the corner and apply the breaks sharply and come out of the corner and accelerate again and the throttle blips. It's a really cool feature of the 7 speeds.

Thanks! You've put my mind at ease!

I was just hoping we didnt have another case of "unintended acceleration" like the toyotas ha

No problem lol. That's why I think sport mode is better used during sporty driving with no traffic around. In stop and go traffic the car will keep wanting to rev match everytime you brake.
