Dyno Tuned

The ecu is located behind the glove box. All you do is unhook the harness and remove a few screws.

hmm that sounds easy, hopefully with fedex 2nd day the turnaround time will be a week the most ;(! thanks!
I have heard that it is worth to wait; besides the TS technician seems to be knowledgeable

Absolutely worth doing - I hear only positive feedback on the TS tune. Never heard a bad report, ever.

You could find that areas of your power curve don't feel right. After my tune, I noticed sudden acceleration in some rpm ranges where there was none before and I also noticed rpm ranges in certain gears that seem to lag or be weak on throttle response. These specific areas can be adjusted with another round of tuning, but it takes having the tuner drive/dyno your FX to do it - something you can't do with a mail-in version. It should still work fine, but maybe not perfect - which is something I think you are entitled to if you are paying $600 for a service. Like JBaker, you might have to send it back a second time for adjustments. Just be prepared for that possibility.

Update: My MPGs are now at 18.7 - still rising since the tune was completed...

jumbosrule,

this is the major concern, that without the dyno, you cannot really tell what's lacking in this specific model/configuration ;(
I know that I'll get the default tune and it will probably be better than a clueless local shop that does it for the first time lol ;)
how much does TS charge for the f/s with the dyno, car and driver on site?

Chris-

That's the chance you take with a "canned" ECU tune, but it can still be done. TS knows what they are doing - that's why you discuss your particular mods with them ahead of time. In the the ranges where AFR could run lean or rich and cause problems, they will most likely err on the side of caution - meaning they will be a little more conservative with cam timing. This can be improved on with additional tuning, but again doing it on the dyno is the best way to see your engine's response to the tune, good, bad or indifferent.

What you really want to do is go to UpRev's website and check for authorized tuners in your area. If you can't do that, then the TS mail-in would be your back-up option, IMO.

Here's TS's info:

Might have to call for pricing.

Interesting development - I went to have my state inspection performed today and two different shops could not connect to the OBDII port on my FX.

After a little bit of research, I found out that the 2004 VQ OBDII connector needs to have a single wire (pin 3) moved to location 14 so that it can communicate with the UpRev Osiris software. The guess is that my tuner switched the wire, but didn't switch it back after completing the tune. Found this describing the OBD connector:

Plan to move the wire back to it's OEM position this evening and attempt the state inspection again tomorrow. If I can connect tomorrow, problem solved.

Good thing to know about the Osiris software though. 2004 requires a quick wire mod prior to getting a tune using that platform.

I thought about that but don't know if the extra pin will impact the test/reader - I took a look at the inspection connector and it has pins in all spots. Could try but if it doesn't work, it's another day of trying...
