Downshift delay/lag when accelerating

When I'm on the highway and need to accelerate (floor the gas), the transmission properly downshifts, however there is a long lag (at least 2 seconds) before the power kicks in and the car accelerates. Sometimes this hesitation feels dangerous if I need to quickly get around someone.

I know all of my previous cars with AT never had this lagging issue but I'm also hearing that this is somewhat normal for 1gen FX35/FX45?

If so, I would like to do mods that could improve the response of acceleration so that it's pretty much instant that the transmission down shifts and transfer the power to the wheels.

Please help!!!

OP is first gen so the shift kit is a definite option. Also try using the manual shift mode for a slightly quicker response.

:)

Im guessing you are using Auto?

If i need quick power to pass someone i usually throw it into Tiptronic and downshift one. Note that when you throw it into tiptronic it already automatically downshifts one gear. I go down another for higher RPMs and mo powa!

Yeah I should use the manual mode more often and I'm definetly getting that shift kit!
Thanks guys.

Transgo shift kit definitley do!! I did this 2 months ago and a HUGE difference in gear shifting...car pulls much quicker and there is no lag at all....

I would try getting into manual mode on a regular basis. Auto for nav & phone talk. Then decide if you want to go through w/ the open heart surgery on your trannie. I'm 99% in Manu, yet still havnt dug into the wallet for a kit . . & that's after 7 years of driving this kitty. Someday I say.

I knew of one guy who had a 2 second lag when accelerating with his G35, and an animal of some sort had eaten the wires of a sensor of some sort.

Also, maybe you could try resetting the ECU and see if it can relearn your driving style for quicker response?

2 seconds in Man.? That sounds way too long.
Stu is right. Reset the ECU & then drive it mad for a little. It should relearn to shift at different points.
With a tune, you can set the ECU to be aggressive all the time without any learning or forgetting. It's a smart car.

yeah I disconnected the battery last night and today I'll be driving around like a mad man (hopefully only for a while lol).

I tried changing from auto to manu on a hwy yesterday. I only had this car for six months now and I never tried manu cuz I thought tiptronic is tiptronic but boy it's there for a reason! I was at around 70 mph and boom it was an instant one gear downshift when I moved it to the manual mode and I downshifted one more right away and that was pretty much instant too. I'm pretty happy with the reaction time with the manu mode but still getting that kit.

I also experienced a significant power loss with my 2005 FX35. The vehicle felt sluggish, like I was towing something, like the vehicle was "puking" into every up and downshift, like it suffered from bad turbo-lag (even though it doesn't have a turbo!). I tried everything to fix the problem, air filter, plugs, etc. I even had Infiniti reflash the CPU. Nothing worked to restore the power loss or poor sense of driveability.

A few weeks ago I developed a bad squeal from the serpentine belt. Upon examination, the belt was fine. The bearings on the two idler tensioners however were practically frozen. Once the tensioners were replaced? Much to my surprise, I had a brand new vehicle -- one that I otherwise was getting ready to trade! All of the power loss issues were gone....the vehicle has run terrific ever since.

I've since told Infiniti about this coincidental finding. They agreed if the serpentine belt was dragging in any way, that could certainly cause misinformation to the various system sensors....lead to all the problems I'd been experiencing....and not necessarily bring up a "Check Engine" indicator or bring up any failure codes on their diagnostic computers. Inasmuch as they were grateful for this insight, I'm hoping they'll put out a TSB alerting all their dealers and service managers to check for this potential problem....especially when there's no other explanation.

Could this perhaps be the underlying reason for any others experience a performance and/or driveability issue?
