Door lock cylinder

Hello,

I bought a used 2004 FX35 with 35k about 2 months ago. I don't have any history on the vehicle. My key works great on the ignition but doesn't open the door. I need to get the key to work just in case my remote battery dies. It seems that the key does not go in all the way. It is possible that the cylinder was changed as I find it hard to believe that the lock has gone bad so quickly. I was wondering if a dealer would be able to reconfigure the lock in order to get it to work with the ignition key? I have located someone selling an extra cylinder and 2 keys. I guess I could always have the new cylinder installed and use a 2 keys system. I rather avoid this scenario. I have heard that the ignition cylinder is programable....could I use the new cylinder and then have the ignition programed to work with this new cylinder?
Also, do I need to remove the window in order to remove the cylinder? I was hoping to do some of the work myself in order to save a few $$$.

Thanks

To follow up... I ended up taking out the lock cylinder and brought it to a Locksmith. He was able to fix the problem and got it to work with my key. He claims at one point someone tried to force their way in and damaged the lock.

I am glad I now have a working key ;-) I am kind of upset because I had to take the door panel, plus, plus out and at the end I figured out that this was most likely not needed. I could have saved myself a couple of hours ;-(

Glad you got it figured out - did you buy the car from a dealer or private party? maybe try to recoup some of the costs.....just a thought.

I didn't buy it from a dealer. Having said that it only cost me $30 to fix and a few hours of my time to take the lock apart and drive to the location this mobile locksmith was at. Now I don't have to worry about my FOB battery dying on me ;-)
