Was checking out my the navi in my friend's Scion TC.
It's touch screen and controls are very instinctive.

Does our navi have the option of finding street intersections?
I can't even program mine to get me to a city w/o entering a street name.
The street name I want to enter does not exist according to my navi.
Is there an upgrade I dont know about?

I have a 06 fx45.

But he still drives a Scion Tc. Yes, you can can enter a city before a street, just scroll up. I've had streets not exist on google maps before, it happens. There might be an upgrade, are you the original owner?

Yes, there are upgrades for the navi disc. Search around and you should be able to see what version is available now. Check to see what version you have now. But I would not upgrade it as is cost $$$ unless you are at least 2 versions behind to see a significant update.

Yes, you have the option to input a destination by various means, including: street address, intersection, memory location, and by point of interest/by name.

There's a Nav-DVD upgrade that comes out every from the company that supplies the DVDs to Nissan/Infiniti. It gets updated each year in Oct or Nov. I can't remember their name right now.

I upgraded mine last fall. Infiniti Canada allows you to get one free upgrade within the first 4 yrs that you own the vehicle, if you bought it new and are the original purchaser. Not sure if Infiniti USA has the same program. If not it'll cost you $200 to buy the DVD update. It'll come with a firmware update. You just pop out your old Nav-DVD from the DVD unit under the front passenger seat, throw in the new one and follow the instructions. Newer streets and subdivisions can be slow to be added, depending on where you live.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not the original owner but my friend does work for infiniti. Maybe he can get me a discount. I did a search before I posted this and couldn't find any info on how to enter intersections. Is it because I have an old version?

Your button layout is different than mine b/c I have a 2005. But the look on screen should be the same. When you update the nav DVD the look and functions still stay the same. When I press the DEST button, it brings me to another screen with the following choices (maybe not exactly...I'm not in my car right now): street address, previous address, intersection, point of interest, etc. I just have to select "intersection" and then it prompts me to provide the first street and then the cross street. Do you not have this screen?

Turns out I just didn't look hard enough. Intersection option is located under "other".

I went on a trip this weekend and used the navi just to test it. I knew the way already but wanted to see which way the navi would take me. Quite disappointing to say the least. It suggested I take all kinds of unnecessary turns through back roads just to get back to the main road. Any way to improve on the way it routes?

Yeah, with the original software 6.4 mine told me to make a U-turn "if it is safe to do so" at a specific point where there was no way to enter into a U-turn. I think that was b/c of outdated info.

Depending on whether you choose the shortest distance or shortest time, it may route you differently. There may be a way for you to edit the route...if there is I haven't tried it. In general the GPS is good enough to get you to somewhere you're not familiar with.

You just pop your dvd out and it has the version on it. We do not discuss burning dvd's here, this is a public forum
