Do mudflaps help protect from wide tires?

Or specifically will installing mudflaps keep the car protected from dirt and damage caused by a 285-305 wide tire kicking up debris and rocks?

I know wheel offset may also play a role in their effectiveness but I'd like to hear about some real-world first-hand experiences please.

When I had my 285's I still got water splashed up on the body.

did a test run with and without them
at the end got almost the same result
jsut the mudflaps stop some of the water

Mine came without the splash gaurds so I put some on. They do help protect from road debris like the cinders that they put on the roads during the winter in the mountains up here.They seem to help with some spray onto body as well. In my case I definatly like them although they do collect snow and I have to keep them cleared from snow build up.
