First off big thanks to Fxlr8's guide found here:
https://www.infinitiscene.com/searc...eering-Fluid-Swap-(Using-Fluid-Transfer-Pump)
I know it's the same on all cars, but I did this for 2nd gen reference since he did it on his M45. :smile (2):
Things you will need:
3+ Bottles of Nissan Power Steering Fluid or equivalent (I used Genuine Nissan Power Steering Fluid since that's what put in the FX from the factory. I don't like mixing different brands of fluid so I kept it the same. Just my preference)
Hand Pump (Bought from Autozone for $5.99)
Empty Jug to put old power steering fluid in
Paper towel to clean up any mess
Funnel for filling up with new power steering fluid
Step 1. Open up hood and remove the power steering fluid cap located on the passenger side and stick the end of the pump that sucks fluid up. Stick it in the reservoir and stick the pump the other end of the hose in an empty jug to catch the fluid and begin pumping:
Step 2. As you can see all the fluid is removed from the reservoir and it's empty:
Step3. Pour in your new power steering fluid:
Step 4: Resecure power steering fluid cap and go drive it around or turn the steering wheel from left to right and right to left a whole bunch of times to get the new fluid to recirculate with the old fluid.
Remember were not getting all the power steering fluid out just some of it. After that repeat steps 1-3 as many times as you like until the fluid in the old fluid in the jug is a light cherry red color that almost matches the new fluid.
A rule of thumb: 1 bottle of Genuine Nissan Power Steering Fluid = 2 swaps
Since I bought 3 bottles I'll get about 6 swaps out of it. That sounds good enough to me.
Here is what two swaps look like. The fluid was black:
I know most people don't change their power steering fluid, and leave it in there for the life of the vehicle, but I just did it for a peace of mind. All fluid breaks down after constant use. By the way I have 45K miles on my FX.
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the hardest and 1 being the easiest I'd give this a 1. Wayyyyyyyy too easy guys :top:
