hows it going guys? I recently purchased a used fx35 2003 with 121000 miles. I went for a drive earlier and noticed that the temperature was climbing radically, well it looks like the water pump is going out. The temperature is fine when im accelerating, however when I take my foot off the gas the temperature sky rockets. Anyone else have this issue before???

I agree because it can be a few things, low coolant, coolant temp sensor because a water pump runs with the belt so it would slow down, worth checking a few things a radiator shop would be able to check it out for free or a small fee, I had a issue similar to waht you were describing on a different vehicle and it turned out to be the coolant temp sensor that goes to the gauge.

Without being able to see the car, my all-in bet is on a failed thermostat.

Since you're at 121,000 miles, depending on if you want to be proactive (unless these items truly did fail), these are the items I just changed (even though none of these have failed on my car at 135,000 miles). The last thing I want is to be stranded on a road trip:
1) New thermostat. Get OEM, FX35 open at 170 F degrees, while the FX45 opens at 180 F degrees (fun fact for the day).

2) New coolant hoses (cheap, might as well). Sometimes these crack and start to go bad.

3) New coolant (kind of a given).

4) Spray clean the radiator correctly, a shop should be able to do this if you are unfamiliar. A lot of debris will be caught in there.

5) Water pump and gasket.

6) new belts if you haven't already.

7) new radiator cap (you can try a NISMO one if you want or just go oem).

Sounds like if accelerating brings the temperature down, your water pump is doing it's job.

Similar symptoms I had with my last Nissan (Maxima) turned out to be a radiator that was constricted. I couldn't flush out the sediment well enough, so I replaced the radiator. Accelerating the engine brought the temp gauge down Nissan didn't diagnose properly, and a few days later the increased pressure popped my heater core, which they then cheerfully replaced for me ($700).

BTW - I've only flushed the radiator on my FX45 once, and I am just hitting 153,000 miles.

lol dealer found a pin hole leak in the head, thank god it happened like a day after the purchase, they are covering all cost on it, and on top of that there re sealing everything since they took apart a majority of the engine, guess I lucked out. oh and on top of that they gave me a g25 to drive around in, which I fell in love with.
