My '03 with every accessory possible, I always turned my lights on day and night, with my new one "Automatic" doesn't turn anything on until it's dark, right?

A little electricians tape over the sensor on the dashboard tricks it into thinking it's dark.

Voila "Daytime Running Lights."
 
Don't US cars have DRL? In Canada, it's the fog lights. Now you're just going to burn through your ballasts' and HID bulbs usable lifespan much faster.
 
Nope, no DTRL's in the lower 48. The lights in my '03 were still going strong when I sold it at 230,000 miles.
I'd be okay with the fogs, but I like something lit up whenever I'm driving.
Believe it or not, some drivers strike me as just a "Touch Inattentive," so I just like the notion of DTRLs. It's crazy Infiniti hasn't got a way to turn them on Automatically.
 
Does someone know for sure the US cars don't have the hardware required to activate them? Or is it software and dealers won't/don't activate it?

Honestly, I only asked my sales guy, he said he asked a service writer, I figured who was his buddy. No help. Anyway, and I was only scheduled for an oil change.

I could see where it was going....

I had a roll of electrical tape... "Like magic!" She just stays lit up.

Anyone that hasn't tried the LED interior lights, I'd encourage you to get at least one, try one, (you can get 'em at Walmart,) and see what you think. Way cooler, just don't do the visor mirrors.:cool: The internet sells complete sets cheaper...
 
There's a module that you'll need to enable DTRL's in US spec FX's... On the 1st Gen, you could hardwire them to work... Guess no one's done it for the 2nd Gen FX yet... The module itself is pretty expensive and no guarantee it'll work plug and play (I think on the first Gen, it was the 2 modules and something else magical like unicorn tears or something)...
 
My 1st gen is a US import and in order for it to be legal in Canada it had to have DTRL module installed. Just last year it stopped working and I couldn't figure out where it was and how to replace it. So I just hardwired bulbs to come on when the car is on. Big mistake on my end since the bulbs melted themselves in the headlight, guess it was too much power going to them (12v)
 
There is a DIY on how to hardwire them... But yeah, it seems to turn on the Parking Lights which run higher than the DTRL's or something like that... If you're using LED's for the DTRL's I've heard of people melting them, but if you're using incandescent white bulbs, I've heard they look better hardwired cause of the increase voltage (apparently they look a bit yellow at 5V or whatever the lower setting is)...

Actually I just used a normal bulb thinking I didn't wanna mess with the LEDs since I didn't have luck with them at all. Turns out I didn't have luck with any lighting on this car.

And the bulb still melted? That's crazy! What hardwire mod did you do? Was it the DIY DTRL mod from the other site?

No bulbs didn't melt, the housing melted around the bulbs and now bulbs are stuck in there and burned out. No way of taking them out without destroying the housing all together, so I left it like that.

It was from here, I forget the thread, but it was wired up inside the cabin and fished through the rubber grommet to each individual light bulb with 1 fuse before it branched off into bulbs.
 
I've never had any problems running full time headlights. I believe that's 100% legal option to lower powered parking style DTRLs.

Sure was easier...

Yikes... That's a much more direct DIY... There's a way to wire it by bypassing some of the modules inside something that kinda looks like a fusebox in the engine bay... No need to run extended wiring and attaching extra fuses...
 
Hi, I saw your post.
I'm thinking to install this DRL to my FX37..
Could you pls tell me where that little relay box connect to ? Does it connect to the battery directly ?
Then it can tell if the car is on ? Also the headlight is on/off ?
Please give me advice, so that I can prepare what to do.

Nope....has a control box. Comes on when vehicle is started & running.....turn off when headlights go on.
