Creaking Engine Noise

sounds like a bad bearing in one of the pulleys, maybe just the idler pulley?, could be water pump or alternator maybe?... a stethoscope to each possible candidate should pin it out, either that or remove the belt & turn each individually to see which is rough...I think it sounds too bad to just be a bad belt but I guess that's a possibility too.... you can try a little grease on the belts surfaces to see if it goes away which would mean it's just the belt...

Ok thanks Turbo. I think your right about the belt, it sounds more like a metal on metal noise. I didn't think about a bad bearing but that definitely could be it. I have an extended warranty which this would probably be covered under if is a problem with the bearing. I might take it to the dealership and see what they say. I'll try the grease on the belts first though just to be sure. If I hold out on getting this taken care of for a couple weeks what could the consequences be. Thanks.

well the bearing could give out or seize, either way throwing the belt off, you would loose power steering & eventually overheat because the water pump wouldn't be turning, alt won't be charging, stuff like that... until that happens though it's just an annoying noise, no way to know how long it will or won't last really...

Question about the grease on belt part, hoping its not too off topic. Would you recommend putting belt grease that you can find at autozone on belts? At 40k my belts are starting to make noises. Almost time for replacement in a few months but want to quiet them down in the meantime. Some places online said never put lubricant or grease on belts, while others say it is ok. Was wondering what your opinion would be... thanks!

Cant answer your question, but what kind of noises are your belts making? anything like the noise in my video?

no metal whinning noise, rather just sound of "dry" belts. DOnt know how else to put it but its nothing abnormal that doesnt come with age

greasing a belt is a temporary fix if that, I use it more as a diagnostic or trouble shooting measure than a solution really, but it can quiet it down for a bit too really...

drawback is, a lot of grease can contaminate the pulleys & then eventually the replacement belt, so if you do grease you should degrease the pulleys before installing a new belt, which can be a pita, grease is not good for a new belt & it can deteriorate quicker, best thing really to ensure another 40k of trouble free belt use is to just replace it rather than greasing it tbh...

bringing this back up to see if the OP found a solution I'm getting close to 50k and well didn't find much info on the 50k maintenance. Don't really want to take it to the dealer if it's just a belt noise

Maintenance depends on ur driving habit.

At 50k if u haven't done it already,
Tranny oil change
Differential fluid change.
Power steering and brake fluid change
Replace ur belts
Wait for another 10k miles if u want, to change ur shocks.

Have not found a solution yet, or time to go to the dealership. I will be bringing it to the dealership soon to get a couple problems hopefully fixed. The creaking noise only seems to be present during rainy days.
