Recently started hearing a clicking noise coming from the rear drive shaft area when standing still, foot on brake & shifting from R to D and vice versa. Started noticing it originally when putting in park & taking foot off brake. The truck would move forward a bit then it would click. I was able to reproduce the sound more often by shifting from R to D & back again.

This is a 2012 LE FX35 with only 17k miles on it. Sounds like a u-joint going bad. So soon??? Anyone else have this before?

I hear the same sound as well...not sure what it is but have wondering about it. I have 75k miles.

FIXED!!

Turns out is was pass side rear axle making the clicking noise. This TSB fixed it. Used Hi-Temp Never-Seize grease. Worked like a charm & took about 20 mins to do....

2009-2013 ALL INFINITI MODELS; CLICKING NOISE FROM FRONT OR REAR AXLE DURING TAKE-OFF/ACCELERATION
Customers concern of a “clicking” noise coming from either left or right front/rear axles during take-off/acceleration.

When I went to the dealer for an oil change and mentioned the noise coming from the possible axle area. They diagnosed it as the spline of the axle needs to be greased (similar solution above) but they said, its not under warranty and there is no bulletin/recall for my vin so they would charge me about $150 to do.

The dealer advised me to call Infiniti Consumer Affairs. The short end of it, it went no where...said same thing as the dealer, no bulletin/recall and I would have to pay for this out of my pocket. I also asked if I do not have it greased will there be damage in the future. They said no. There has to be physical damage before they can repair under warranty.

I guess the questions for you guys would be:
Does this entire process seem correct?
How do I get this greased under warranty? (I do have the elite extended warranty up to 118k miles or 2018)
What happens if I do not grease it?
How much would this cost to have a non-dealer grease it?

Thanks,
Frank

The TSB is linked in post #3. I would email them with a copy and ask them to explain why there isn't a TSB when you have one right there. Or you could do it in person. You need an Infiniti Help account to actually download the TSB.

That link goes to the EX35, but when you open the PDF you'll see it lists all the other models that are affected.

Not sure why they are jerking you around about it. Sounds like a crap dealer. I had this done on mine awhile back, and brought in a TSB for the G since there wasn't one for the FX and had no issues, but I had a good relationship with the dealer as well.

I wish I knew...seems relatively straight forward. I left a vm with the service manager I was dealing with previously and will call again in the morning. If I don't make progress then I will try another dealer.

It's odd that Infiniti Consumer Affairs gave me the same run around too. What am I missing here....

I just got off the phone with infiniti consumer affairs and the dealer in two different phone conversations both stating this bulletin is a form of advisement to the technician on how repair, not a "recall". In conclusion, nothing for them to fix/cover.

This is frustrating.

I have a 2011 FX35 AWD with the similar issue. At first I thought it was coming from the rear brake/parking brake. I hope my dealer gives me no trouble.

I just took my car in for this issue. They told me they had to retorque the rear axle nuts and so far it's fixed, free under warranty.

Yeah, i need to bring my car in for this soon i been hearing the clicking a lot and it's kind of annoying.

What did you tell them when you brought it in? did you tell them about the recall issue or you just said you been hearing the clicking noise?

I didn't tell them anything about recall or TSB. I pulled into the service garage, and shifted from P to R while pressing the brake pedal to show them. They could obviously hear it.
