Clear Plastic Film Behind Door

I took the door panel off the other day and there was this clear plastic film attached to the metal part of the door. Any idea what it is? I also noticed that it's attached with this sticky tar substance that's holding it up. What is this stuff? I'm trying to figure out how to Dynamat my doors to make the sound system sound better since the speakers are there. But this clear plastic covering is in the way and obviously it serves some kind of purpose. But I can't attach the Dynamat directly to the door if this stuff is in the way.

It looks like the vapor barrier stuff they use to keep moisture from getting in the walls of a house.

Looks like someone played the saran wrap on the toilet prank on your FX....j/k

It's a weather seal to keep water from getting into the interior of the car. You'll need to carefully remove it and reapply it after adding your soundproofing material.

Here is Soonster's first gen when he did his rear doors:

Thanks man!

I thought if I took it off I can't reapply it.

One more question. To anyone that just Dynamated the doors only did you notice any difference in the way the sound system sounds? Deeper bass and clarity?

When I heard Soon's fx with just the doors done, the improvement in the sound system is what sold me. I hadn't even heard the improved road noise reduction yet.

Nice just read through the thread so I'm sold lol.

Looks like B-Quiet is the better bargain? The Dynamat stuff seems overpriced for what it is and it performs the same basic function.

I have BQuiet on my front doors...haven't gotten around to the rears yet. I would recommend this stuff based off my experience so far. :top:

Any difference in road noise doing the front only? Like a big dramatic difference or a small difference that only someone anal could tell apart?

By the way another reason I'm doing this cause my front doors rattle like crazy when I have the bass up on max and the volume at 80%. Like you can tell alot of the good sound is leaking out of the doors and making the sound system sound not so great lol.

Make a rather large difference even with just the fronts. When I had only one door done, the cabin seems unbalanced. Now with both fronts completed, I hear all the noise from the back doors. This is a must do in my mind for all my future cars.

Thanks man really appreciate all the feedback your giving. I notice the doors have no sound deadening from the factory. They put it all on the back of the door panel instead. I think the metal is rattling when the bass is up on max. Can't wait to try this out.

the b-quiet ultimate has better proven performance and weight ratio. 50sq feet will cover all 4 doors and trunk (if you are conservative in applying)
