Chrome window trim

I bought a 2011 FX35 recently as a CPO with original warranty. The chrome window trim was pretty bad, looked like oxidation or some cleaning chemical went on it. The dealership I bought my car at said it's "natural wear" caused by weather, etc. so I'd have to pay for new ones. Is this covered under warranty? Would I have to deal with corporate? Thanks in advance

"natural wear" doesnt sound right. my 2010 sees crazy types of weather alot and mine is perfectly fine

That's def not natural wear, my fx is 3 years old, no issues. I have also seen 10+ year 1st gens at meets with no issues with the window trim as well. The last owner must have used some wrong cleaning agent.

Looks like I have the same issue Veritas was talking about.. Any way to clean this up or do you think covering it with vinyl would be a better solution? Looks like someone sprayed something on it and it got on my pillars too :at-wits-end:

likely cleaning chemicals sprayed on without any water then not cleaned off in time so it etched the metal/plastic. You can try and clean it off but may need to recover. That is essentially a wear and tear item it would likely not be covered under warranty for a 2011 CPO. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I just received the Colonel Brassy that @Themechanic suggested... Going to give that a try this weekend along with the Mother's aluminum polish... If that doesn't work I'll most likely look into vinyl wrapping to hide it.. If the Colonel works for me, I'll post up some pics

Rub some of this stuff on it to remove anything from it....then you could use some aluminum polish like mothers with a terry cloth. Youll be shocked at the results.

Do you typically dilute Colonel Brassy or just apply as is? Not sure how thick the chrome plating is on the trim, don't want to make it any worse than it already is! Thanks for any input..

Finally got around to using the Colonel Brassy yesterday, worked amazing on the chrome trim! Followed up with the mothers polish, it all came out great. Little nervous to try it on the B Pillars though, tried it on one spot and it took the shine right off, left it looking very dull. Used some polish over the area, and brought the shine back somewhat, maybe I just need to keep going over it..

You dont have to dilute it on anything. Just use it as it is & the colonel brassy is just for metal & aluminum & non shiny plastics or plastic thats all oxidized somehow. Dont use it on shiny plastics. You can use plastic polish from autozone. You know the one they use to polish headlamps to bring back the shine on the B pillars just make sure you use a soft towel.

For the first Gen/Black trims can we get it professionally painted?

Been thinking of doing mine soon to match the black/shinny pillars.
