hey guys when is the correct time to change the transmission fliud, and the anti- freeze. I almost forgot, and what about the differential fluid? just wanted to know, because I don't want to mess anyhting up.

honestly i changed my Differential fluids when my FX hitted 50k.. as well as the trans fluid, and a radiator flush..

How did the diff oil look at the change?

nasty! milky white and it had shit load of bubbles.. it came with a odor of its own too..

it was old so my Friend John and i changed.. he recommended to changed the Differential oil again after a few weeks.. so we did it the second differential fluid change within a month or so.

i wonder when infiniti suggests those fluids need to be changed? There might even be a schedule in your owners manual?

First, don't waste money that you don't need to and don't skimp on changing fluids -- ha so basically change it when it needs to be changed.

1) Transmission fluid. I do this every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Only use Nissan Matic D or Nissan Matic S (newer version, D is discontinued). I did a flush once at ~50,000 miles at $189.00 (12 quarts). Now I only do a drain/fill $89 (4 quarts).

I've known members on infinitifx.org that haven't change it since they bought the car and they are at 100k+ miles with no issues. But, I still recommend at least once every 50,000 miles. Fluid is cheap, transmissions are not.

2) Coolant/Anti-freeze -- mine looked dirty, but still a little green. I do this every two years or 30,000 miles. I got it checked at the dealership (they don't scam me), they said it looks dirty but they ran a test and it runs cold at exactly the temp it should be at. Go with a flush here if you do it. Just check your temp gauge too, see if your temperature goes too high, etc.. but you also want to change every 30,000 or 2 years to flush out any contaminants. There are lifetime coolants out there too now.

3) Differential fluid and Transfer Case (don't forget about the T-case). I used to do this every 30,000 miles, but now think it's overkill. I changed to Full Synthetic and now change every 50,000.

4) For oil changes, you have a 2003 Infiniti FX45, same as mine, so VK45DE engine. Use Valvoline Full synthetic (or any other) at 5w-40, and you won't burn any noticeable oil. If you haven't check your engine oil level every 1,500 miles, especially if you're using 5w-30, you might be surprised at how low it gets. Stick with Wix, K&N, Mobil 1 oil filters. Nissan OEM Filter is expensive and not very good.

5) If you're bringing to the dealership -- go get a price quote printed out, labor and parts separated. Go buy the fluids at your local auto store (except for Nissan Matic J/S, you'll have to order or go to your nissan dealership) and watch how much you save. It is critical you get the price quote prior, because if you bring in your own parts, they jack up the labor to compensate for it.

yea theres like a 'premium' schedule which recommends fluid changes 15 or 30k. dude how did the diff. oil become milky white??

Bro i wish i knew.. it was the first time i changed since i got it.. even i grabbed my FX of a lease dont know what the last person did to it for the Diff fluids to be like that. me and my friend were amazed over the fact..

Seems my Steering Fluid is a bit on the low side. Anyone know if I can use Matic J ATF to top it off? I have a case here at the pad.

I use ATF fluid in my BMW power steering. that being said ATF runs at a much lower PSI that the power steering system. ATF also has additives that soften the seals. Depending on the power steering system this may be bad or good.

Sorry I could not speak specifically for the fx or J fluid....

i change mine and it was black with a real bad smell and metal shavings on the plug my mileage was 14000
