Car Shaking and Jerking w/ RPM going up and down

I'm now experiencing the following issues with my 09 FX50S:

- Whole car is shaking while moving, idle or parked. I can feel the steering wheel, my driver's seat, driver's door all shaking in a noticeable way.
- Car starts jerking when I apply the brakes.
- RPM keeps going up and down between 1K and 0 when the car is idle.
- When I opened the hood, the engine cover was vibrating especially its right side towards the driver's side.
- I can hear odd noise coming from the engine bay when the car is moving, idle or parked
- No warning lights are on whatsoever. All warning lights in the instruments are fine.
- No odd smell or smoke.

This all started shortly after I was driving in the DS mode and I accelerated suddenly. The RPM went quickly to 4K with a loud engine roar then came down to 2K.

Any idea what's going on?? :err:

You might have a bad coil which causes a very rough idle. But i could be wrong. Just throwing out a guess on the facts you stated.

if it shakes like that, the service engine light should have gone off...has it....is a cylinder misfiring?

Its your turbos spooling... might want to crank down the psi

on the real, time to pay your dealer a visit. Warranty should fix/replace everything

I am currently experiencing the same symptoms but I think it was a bad tank of gas. I hope it was a bad tank of gas... Bklynjohn718 had a video in an old thread that sounds similar to what you describe. Check the video see if it is the same problem

spark plugs or a cylinder misfiring sound about right..

its a 09 bro.. take it to the dealership.... and give us a update with your situation to use it a reference next time another member have a similar issues..

good luck!!

Reset the ECU and see if that helps. Maybe DS mode did something.

I had something similar and it turned out 2 coil packs had shorted. If I remember correctly, I had no warning/check engine lights for the first minute or two.

I had same thing when I used DS mode. I was on third gear going at 5rpm and I wanted to shift up, but did down instead. It was bad mistake. Dealer fixed

Thanks everyone for your comments! I appreciate it.

Great news: issues including shaking, jerking, RPM jumping, and engine noise are all gone now!! I did not do anything. When I drove the FX for 15 minutes about 3 hours ago all issues I had last night were there, however, after I parked it for just 7 minutes to pick up something and I hit the ignition button again everything ran smoothly as usual. As if the FX miraculously healed itself!

I cruised and did spirited driving for about 1.5 hours and none of the problems re-surfaced! :smile (2):

More info:

- Yes, I have the K&N filters installed for about 8 months. I never re-oiled the filters myself.
- Yes, I did quickly rinse my engine bay (did not remove the covers though) 3 days ago and I used a pressure washer.
- No mods yet, but I'll be installing the Borla cat-back exhaust kit in 2 weeks.

Should I just sleep on it for now or still visit a dealer??

Never ever ever use a pressure washer on the engine bay. Your always suppose to use a hose a slightly spray it down. And anytime you wash the engine bay your suppose to cover the alternator and MAF sensors. So it's possible that those were induced with water and threw them off. If the MAF sensors got wet that would explain the fluctuating RPM levels. Next time just use a hose on low.
