The engine started to shake, smoke came out, and there was a burning smell. I checked the vital fluids, everything seemed to be fine, but my car was low on oil. I added oil took the car home. The engine would only shake at idle/low rpm. Took the car to the mechanic and had a bad coil replaced. Car worked fine for 2 days, until I got the same problem again. Replaced the another bad coil car was working, until another coil burned. I'm currently replacing all the old coils. New coils still work. What can it be if the car starts shaking again after replacing all of the coils?

I did use the search function and found a few threads, but they never really went specfic on what was actually wrong with it.

I have a 2004 Infiniti fx35 rwd with 112k miles

thanks

I forgot to mention that I also replaced the spark plugs.

good thing you changed all your coils, that's most likely the cause of your vibration. you might also want to look at the MAF sensor.

then the plugs, then the injectors....

Sometime the oil burning is because the O ring in the coil get messed up.. That's why punhahacj asked if there was oil when he pulled the coils.. This is a typical problem on the VQ35DE.

For the vibration.. I thing having bad coils have thrown the timing valve off.. You should look into it.

when my FX did this, the dealer said they replaced 2 coil packs that had shorted out, and tightened the ground on the rest
