Bug Deflector questions

I did a search, and didn't find much other than the link of where to purchase the bug deflector:

http://www.trademotion.com/partloca...rtInfo&PartID=183338&siteid=55&catalogid=3323

That being said... for those that have it, does it require any screws being drilled or placed through the hood or front of the car? It appears that there are bolts of some sort involved.

Does it do any kind of damage to the car if I ever wanted to remove it?

Also, how effective is it? I have a few trips in the (near) future and want to know if its worth my while.

Thanks.

I dont have a bug deflector but most deflectors use a hook + clamp style install so you do not have to drill ... the better ones also come with a 3m adhesive to put where the clamps got so you dont damage the paint.

The oem deflector uses the clamp and screw style as described above plus 3m adhesive to protect the paint. I use it and it has been effective for me, not perfect 100% but works well enough.

I have the same deflector from the same website you found..

look cool and work nice..

after all, you can see where your front bumper up to :)

I also got the the same deflector and you don't need to drill into the hood. You just attach the clip to the hood from underneath and then attach the deflector to the clip by screw. The installation is easily reversible in case you want to remove it in the future. As for how well it works, I noticed a lot less dead bugs on the windshield on my daily commute to work.

I also have this same deflector, and it also uses clamps and 3M tape and it works.
Well, I don't actually, just wanted to fit in. :frown:

if i wanted a bug guard on my 07 gray FX, i was trying to figure out if the standard smoke color would look best or if there was a good way to color match the deflector? You guys think that would look good or bad?

The guard for the FX looks way better than the guard i put on my jeep in college. I'm ordered the dark tinted window deflectors already but can't decide what to do if i got the bug guard color-wise...

dr2k has the front deflector color matched

wow, that looks great! i'd love to do that on mine--same color as his. any idea what the best way to do this in regards to actual painting and ways to increase durability of color?

You will need to take it to a body shop to get the specific color match to your fx. And the clear coat will help protect it but possibly a vinyl film or even a clear bra application for increased durability over the loan run. I have chips on mine and will have to get it repainted eventually and I will add a clear bra or vinyl film for increased protection at that time.
