Hello everyone, i know there was a recall on that, but my car is 2006 and the warranty is for 8 years, so i missed it. so here is my question:

is there a way to reupholster it? maybe cut down the top layer and cover it with alcantara leather or something like that? maybe someone knows a place in NYC where they can help me out for a reasonable price (dealer told me it will cost me $3000)

Thanks in advance.

If yours is an '06...it should still be under warranty. Try another dealer and they might do it...I'm in the same boat as I have an '06 also and I was gonna try
to get this done anyway even though my dash is fine....it should be the last year to do it if you have an 06.

Is it based on the service date? So if it was April of '06, you're over but if it's Dec. of '06 you'd still be in.

I'm not sure if the top layer separates on the dash. It's not leather so it's not a covering. A shop should be able to cover over it, that's typically how they do it anyways. I've had similar work done on other cars and they usually just cover over. It's not thick enough to impact anything.

my bubbles are pretty big, and they start to piss me off real bad... the covers that i have seen on ebay dont look nice and there are issues with the airbags and stuff... So i'm looking for a permanent solution to the problem...

@ Shadow....it is based on the service date I just found out. So mine was Jan '06 so it was up this past January. My dealer said to call consumer
affairs and explain that is only a few months over and they might give the dealer the go ahead to do it. I'll see what they say....

If you take it to a decent upholstery shop, they can cover the whole thing. They'd just glue leather or alcantara or suede and stitch as needed. It would be like if you had a couch redone at home, it's not one of those ugly dash covers. I never understood why people put ugly floor mats on their dash.

so the Infiniti Consumer Affairs and Financial department basically told me to go and F**k myself because my extended warranty expired 4 month and, and they even admit that they did not send out any notifications about this warranty extension. so i guess i'll be looking for an upholstery shop now

Any recommendations for a shop in NYC?

Thanks

Too bad the recall is only valid in the US and Canada :(
My imported US '08 FX35 AWD has the famous bubbles on the dash, but here in Europe the is no recall option.
Sad news... And not to be understood because the cars is fully US!

Hmmm, reading all these posts, makes me appreciate my old dealership in Little Rock, Arkansas (Ellis Infiniti). My FX is 2003 and I had them replace the dash for free in 2012 without any questions asked and giving me a free courtesy car for over a week it took them to fix it all. I guess some dealers actually honor their customers and are not total duches I keep reading about in similar threads....
