Broken gear shifter "plunger" under knob. Help!

The plastic piece under my gear shift knob cracked and broke. I have been having to shift without a knob because without that plastic piece, the knob won't clip back on to the gear shift. Does anyone know what this part is called or where I can find one? I have called about 20 salvage yards and nobody has Infinitis. I have gone to the Infiniti dealer and unfortunately I was told I would have to buy a new shifter since that is what this piece comes with. Really don't want to spend $600 on a new shifter when I only need this plastic piece. I have searched the forum and found someone else called it a "plunger." Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. It is such a pain to shift my car without the knob. Thank you!

I would post a photo or link to a picture of the piece I need but since I am a new member, I am unable to do so.

$200 for the shifter from sewell. http://infiniti.sewellparts.com/accessories-catalog/Interior/FX35-2006/821.html

Call them and ask if they sell the plunger piece spearately. Sewell has excellent customer service from my experience, and have been very helpful especially in situations like this.

Alternatively you can find it used on ebay cheap:

Maybe you can just remove the plunger from that knob (are you referring to the white piece?)

Good luck!

Thank you greatly for your reply & help! I will check that website out.

Yes, the white piece. Part of it is actually broken off inside the knob and my husband and I have both tried like hell to get it out and it is not budging. I bought a new knob, but just need this plunder piece now.

Oh wait, no, it's not the white part. It is actually the long blue piece from what I have seen in photos. It goes over the stick part of the shifter.

The blue piece that you're referring to is actually called an actuator, that goes inside of the gearshift knob, also called a cartridge. To my knowledge even though it' is a separate part, it is in fact not sold separately, since it is considered as a part of the entire gearshift knob. The only way is to wether buy a very beat up and used up knob, just to get this piece. Hope this helps.

Correction, the blue piece (actuator) is actually a part of the select level floor shifter, onto which the gear knob slides onto.

Just buy a momo shift knob if all else fails I took my blue piece off and just lowered it a little. You use 3 little allen head screws provided, with a allen key to hold the shift knob on and mine works perfectly and looks way better than oem knob. It also comes with an instruction booklet and costs about $100 for everything

Prefect find Adam. I saw it the other day and was wondering who would need that. :smile (2):

Thanks Andy :)) Sad that a part that probably costs $0.50 to make is not even available as a stand alone piece. But then guess it's not something that breaks often, unless the gear knob was not secured with the horse shoe clip or was removed improperly.
