Brake Upgrade Questions

They will bolt up, same calipers as FX50. You will need new rotors, but the master cylinder doesn't need to be changed.

Theres a few more thing to think about before upgrading to the Akebonos.

1. Stock 18" wheels will not clear them, so if they are your winter wheels, you will need to spend money to get a new set of 18" that can clear.
2. The spare tire of the FX35 will not clear them, you will need to get the FX50 spare wheel if you want some emergency peace of mind.

Hm... that sucks. I'm thinking of upgrading the brakes to Akebono as well; however, my winter setup runs on stock 18". :eek.: I'm assuming with some spacers, they will probably clear.

My summer setup runs on stock 20" though.

Hmmm. I never really thought about this. Good info though.
Will it clear the rear? If so, if one has a problem up front, you could just swap the wheels around and put the spare at the rear, good tire up at the front. Then no problem with the spare.

No the spare won't clear the rear calliper either that was confirmed somewhere.

It was also confirmed that the Akebono's do clear the factory 18's if you add a 25mm spacer to the front wheels.

This is definitely on my to do list! Cant believe they didn't put Akebonos on the QX70 Sport model. I thought it would be part of the Sport package. Has anybody bought the kit from Concept Z Performance?

Just make sure they send you the correct FX kit. I vaguely remember someone posting that they got a kit from Concept Z and the rear rotors didn't fit. The FX rear rotors are different due to a different parking brake. The calipers are the same. So just make sure that they send you the correct rear rotors.

I just installed the Akebono kit on my 2015 QX70 today. I purchased the complete kit from CZP and got everything required. Went with black zinc slotted Centric rotors. I know it has been posted that there is no need to modify the front rotor shields but that was not the case with my 2015. I had to trim the upper portion that folds over the rotor as the new (larger 14 inch) rotors were hitting the shield. On the rear, the rotor shield completely wraps around the rotor so that was a bit more intensive as I cut back the whole outer edge. I did use the stock lines and there was no problem with length / fitting.

I just drove it home from the shop (about 5 miles) and noticed a bit gummy as the pads were wearing off the coating on the rotors. Pedal feels a little soft so I will bleed again tomorrow and report back next week after I've had some time evaluate them properly.

Just a quick Q guys, these kits are expensive for me to buy if I am gona to buy the rotor from while to another as a continues cost, but from I heard from friends in the US that brakes n rotors are life time waranty, correct me if am wrong !! So only I ll buy it one time n it be warranty for free!! if it got damaged ?

I think warranty is discretionary with dealer. Pads are not covered, rotors might be if there's a manufacturer problem

Keep in mind that wear won't be covered. So only defects and it's usually up to their discretion. So they may use a lot of excuses to not warranty something years down the road.
