My front and rear brake pads are real low. Will need to replace them. Thinking about getting my rotors machine and replacement of brake pads. Any suggestion what type of pads to use...OEM?

Is there any difference between brake pads for the fx50 vs fx50s ?

I've found Akebonos pads listed for fx50 but none for fx50s

Also, Hawk or Akebonos ??

I have the same need on the brake pads. Are the akebonos brands brake pads any good with noise, better stopping power, and dust? What is the factory brand?

fyi

I went to Infiniti Dealer to see what the deal with replacing the brake pads for kicks, and this is no lie. They want to charge me $360 just for the rear brake alone. WTF!
Inspection show 3mm left on the pads, it get a little squealing when I brake and when it get warm.

Also front brake is about 6mm thick, should I replaced front pads for convenient sake when I replaced the rear? BTW, this easily a DIY job.

I ordered 2 days ago from www.autopartswarehouse.com of akebono front and rear brake pads: front #W0133-1851612 rears #W0133-1851613

There's another Akebono part # for front: AKACT1346rears:AKACT1347

I went with the longer part # because it says come with shims.. But unfortunately they just told me the front #W0133-1851612 is out of stock and i'm stuck debating if its ok to order the front AKACT1346 with the rear #W0133-1851613

I've done some research and think the akebono are probably best all around pads. You'll never get all three noise, stopping power and dust from a brand. They''ll always be a lil give/take here and there. The akebono probably lack a lil on stopping power compaired to other brands like hawks.. Another brand you may want to check out is Stoptech..

$360 per axle to do brakes at dealer sounds about right. They'll probably be machining the rotors and replacing the pads. You dont need to do brakes if its at 6mm..there's still lots of life left on the pads. You should not do it for convenience sake..its a waste of $ !! Do it when it requires..

Recently had all 4 pads replaced at the dealership, cost over $900 CAD. Needless to say I won't be going that route again.

Was $360 per axle including parts & labour?

:eek.: Man that's insane for pad replacement. You could have buddy up with someone local that do their own brakes and get him to guide you through it once. Well I guess it all depend if you want to do it yourself or not. I understand some people just uncomfortable with doing their own brakes. Can't imagine the second generation FX be much of a difference from any disc brake system.

Yes, it was included both part and Labor and I think resurfacing the rotors. Still too much for simple brake change minus the resurfacing the rotor.

OEM brake pads better than aftermarket?

I've been reading numerous threads and posts on this topic, but it still doesn't seem like there is a consensus: are OEM brake pads for the FX ('09 onwards) better than aftermarket (eg, Akebono) in terms of wear, noise stopping power and brake dust or not?

Just to further add to my question, it's my understanding that the OEM pads for the FX35 ('09 at least) are made by Akebono. Can someone confirm if that is the case and, if so, what are the differences between say the ProAct pads versus stock pads or are they likely to be similar enough such that it's not really worth switching immediately?
