Bought used FX35 with 60k+, will it last??

So I purchased a used 05'FX. It has about 64,000 miles on it. I love it so far very much, tight, heavy, quality feeling. I was a bit leary on the mileage as I traded in a Volvo with only 25k on it.. needed more room for my new son :). My question to the FX owners out there is how well are the motors in the FX's. I heard they are the same as Murano's and Nissan makes good long lasting engines. Is 60k on an Infinity nothing compared to what that same mileage would be say on an American brand? Thanks in advance for any input. :.smile:

Hey buddy, welcome to the scene.

It sure will, as long as you do all the maintenance needed.

Check out this thread:

I'm about to hit 80,000 on mine and it still runs great. No issues with it whatsoever. You will be in good hands with your FX

Im right at 65k and no issues what so ever besides the normal matinence. Id check to see if it has had the major 60k service. Other than that your all good

A few have had their long/short blocks covered under warranty for some knocking noises but most have no issues with the infiniti engine. My VK is at 90k with normal oil changes and no major issues. Just minimal maintenance of tranny fluid, Diff. fluid, brake fluid, spark plug was changed out at 20k for one step colder and still going strong.

there's fx's that have been well passed the 100k mark. there's even an fx with 200k. if oyu take care of them they last :)

I'm at 65K and absolutely no issues. Key is maintenance. The VQ driveline is one of the most reliable built.

i bought mine with 67k and now hit 123,456 mile mark a few days ago. just oil changes, tires, and new air filter for me since i bough it

Bought the fx with 80k+ miles recently, runs great but haven't driven much mind you (currently overseas).

Btw, what's all this nonsense of domestic cars being unreliable. Every car is reliable IF it's been taken care of. However, when it comes to electronics and other fancy stuff, its a whole different story. This is where I think car brands' reputation is mostly based on. I.E Ranger Rovers have good engines but power seats always seem to fail when ever in need. And don't get me started with the suspension lol.

Bottom line: take care of the car and it would take care of you. Its a blast to drive :)

Oh and drive safe, its too tempting to floor it every time lol.

I conduct a car reliability survey. (More FXs needed, BTW.) Cars, regardless of brand, seem to last to about 150-170k these days. And that's on average. For any brand you'll also find cars running well with over 200k on them.

The nature of the miles makes a difference. Long highway trips are much easier on a car than numerous short trips in traffic, with the engine started cold each time.

Maintenance cannot avoid all problems, especially those with electrical, AC, etc. But for the powertrain good maintenance is essential.

I totally agree with some of the posts above. As long as you take care if the car it will take care of you.

The smartest thing to do ( even if the dealership where you bought your used fx said that they have done it) is to change your fluids ie. Tranny flush, radiator flush, differential fluid change, steering wheel fluids change, brakes fluids, spark plugs and both filters in cabin and intake.

My fx was acting up due to the fact that I never changed the differential fluids I got it off a lease. I recently changed the diff fluids and it was bad. Smelly, it was milky like and bublely. I changed with regular fluids( mobil1) drove it for about 6k miles and changed it again with RP.
Loving it.

But yes. If you perform all these things on your FX you won't have anything to worry about beside oil change.

Ps. Put some addictive in the gas tank for about 2-4 months to clean the lines and if u are good with engines try to clean the upper, lower plenum + the TB when you do this spray some MAF sensor cleaner to the MAF sensor.

If you do all this.. Even if your FX is used it'll feel like new.

Sorry for such a long PM.

do all the regular maintenance and you SHOULD not have any problems. I'm not gonna say "will not" because I was one of those that had the long block replaced... twice. I did all of the recommended oil/transmission/differential services, but the long block was replaced first at 45k miles, and then again at 65k miles.

Theres only maybe one or two others that have had it replaced. And I really do think there was just something about my car.. so I gave it another shot and bought another one . So far, 50k miles on the odometer and sounds like shes running fine. To answer your question, yes, these engines are supposed to be good long lasting well built engines

I keep up regular maintenance and have replaced some of the normal "wear and tear" parts to keep it feeling new and have almost 142k miles on it.

Other that replacing all the door locks (guess I can't complain but still $900 in door locks!!) last month, it has run great without a hitch!

Well its been over a year now, did it last?

I doubt the OP is still on the forums, but I'd take an FX with 60K+ miles over a Volvo with half the mileage any day.

I bought my 2005 Fx35 with 2200 and now has 3282 miles running like a champ for a 2005. The only thing i have done so far is put 22's and i have stillen supercharge waiting to be install..... I guess ill wait tell spring no rush.

i have a 2001 Acura TL that has well over 175k, the car runs and starts up like a charm.. only minor things had to be changed I.e timeing belts, motor mounts, Brakes ext.. but still runs and drives good. Maybe underpowered when yuo compare to whats on the road now. We just brought a FX50 with 39k miles... today
