Almost a decade has passed since Mona and Kevin Alsop held the first Ride the Mountain Bike Show. And it just keeps getting better.

The eighth annual Ride the Mountain is Saturday, June 19, at Snow Summit Mountain Resort. Riders from throughout the country make the trip to Big Bear Lake for the show, concert, poker run and more. It’s the only run of its kind in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Mona Alsop, co-owner of Big Bear Choppers, is excited because the weather should cooperate.

This year, the entertainment line-up features the cast of “Sons of Anarchy,” disc jockey Pauly D straight from the reality series “Jersey Shore” and Shorty Rossi, who serves as special emcee. Rossi is the star of Animal Planet’s “Shorty’s Rescue.” Five cast members of “Sons of Anarchy” are confirmed to appear. They are riding their choppers up the mountain and arrive with a California Highway Patrol escort, Alsop said.

The guys of “Sons of Anarchy” have been tweeting about the Ride the Mountain event, which leads Alsop to believe this will be the event’s biggest turnout. The Big Bear Choppers Web site received 5,000 hits on June 11, Alsop said.

DJ Pauly D is also expected to draw a crowd. “Guys hate him, but girls love him,” Alsop said.

Judge Jackson returns to the Big Bear Choppers Ride the Mountain to rock the stage as the headliner.

New this year is the poker run start. Big Bear Choppers partnered with San Bernardino Professional Firefighters to benefit the organization. Participants can join Kevin Alsop, co-owner of Big Bear Choppers, at Quaid Harley Davidson in Loma Linda at 8 a.m. for the ride up the mountain. Those already in Big Bear can make their first stop on the poker run at the Big Bear Choppers facility on Fox Farm Road in Big Bear Lake.

The poker run has stops around the lake and throughout Big Bear. Entry is $35 and includes entrance to the show, a T-shirt and event pin. All hands must be turned in by 2 p.m. at the Big Bear Choppers Factory registration booth to be eligible for awards.

The bike show is the highlight of the day, with more categories added this year. Classes include the Big Bear Choppers Class, Open Class, Custom Harley (frame and motor must be a Harley), and Classic Class for bikes built in 1983 or earlier.

The entry for Big Bear Choppers classes is free. All other classes are charged a $30 fee, which includes admission to Ride the Mountain. Bike show sign up is from 6 to 9:30 a.m. at the top of the Snow Summit Parking lot. Judging is from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Awards are at 2:30 p.m.

Ride the Mountain is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entertainment begins at 10:30 a.m. A meet and greet with Pauly D is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Big Bear Choppers Factory Rig and Sons of Anarchy do a meet and greet from 3 to 5 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person, kids 10 and under are admitted free. There is free motorcycle parking or VIP parking for $10. Snow Summit Mountain Resort is at 880 Summit Blvd., Big Bear Lake.
