I'm trying to do a project to blackout the headlights but reading all the posts on here, everyone mentions using flat or glossy black paint but never a type of paint or name. I want to make sure I use the right type i.e. enamel, laquer, oil, etc with matching primer.

Can anyone suggest whats good? I don't want the paint to melt the plastic or flake off after some time.

Thanks!

Fxlr8 told me to use Krylon Fusion, it worked great. I think I went with a matte black finish, I can't remember if it was matte or semi matte.

I didn't primer the headlights. I sanded them down really well and smooth to get rid of the chrome, and then painted with Krylon Fusion. K.F. is specifically made to bond to plastics so primer isn't really necessary.

Im actually going to sandblast instead of sand the headlights, too many nooks and crannies to deal with. Just have to find the right sand...or pellets...

Anyone have any pics of headlights painted? I'm curious
as to which parts are you talking about?

it requires taking the headlights out, which is time consuming for beginners, then baking them and taking them apart which is a HOT job, then carefully spray painting to cover all corners. if you want to do it, then you will have to devote a lot of time into it.
