Any suggestions on a good battery? BTW. What is an AC amplifier? How do I change it? Where can I buy it?

Thanks!

Optima batteries are a good replacement. (Group 34 I believe)

Interstate gel sealed would be even better (longer warranty)

i went to Interstate to buy one of theirs......but they did not have one to fit in stock & I didn't want to wait 7-12 days for one to come in so I went with the Optima.

I've had very good success with the Interstate Mega-Tron Plus (MTP-35). With proper maintenance I usually get five years out of it in South Florida. And Tire Choice usually offers a $10 discount.

In a recent Consumer Reports magazine Costco batteries were highly rated and suprisingly low priced as well! Also, something new for me is that there are batteries designed for cold and warm climates. Seems like the hot weather is the hardest on automotive batteries?

Recently purchased Costco's 700 CCA group 24F battery for my '08 FX with Tech & Sport packages & Intellikey (Intellikey requires a higher CCA rating)

Battery was $84.99 with a $9 core charge. has a 36 month 100% replacement warranty and then prorated to 100 months after the initial 36 months. Warranty that cant be beat IMHO

I'm using the "Duracell" (aka Sam's Club aka East Penn) 24F - just bought it a couple of months ago, so no thoughts on longevity, but it works fine - definitely a change in the sound of the start over the old dying battery. Decided on it over Costco (yes, I'm one of those people with both memberships) as they were approximately the same price and the Sam's one had a higher CCA rating - 725 vs 700 at Costco. I also have the intelligent key like 6T9CHGR, so that's why the 24F vs the 35.

On a completely different thought - I was really impressed at the OEM battery - longest I've ever had a battery last - this is the first change and my '07 FX was manufactured ~11/2006. Wasn't impressed enough to replace it with another OEM though - for all I know Nissan has changed battery suppliers in the past 7 years and I can buy a couple Sam's/Costco batteries before I would break even on an OEM battery - ditto with Optima.

I just had my battery replaced with a Napa one with a 60+ month warranty for $130. I didn't have much luck with my old battery, a Duralast Gold (only lasted 2.5 years). Hate replacing the battery. Pain in the butt.

I'm going to need a new battery soon. My FX has been running on the same battery since I purchased it brand new. Yesterday I noticed my smart start was not working and when I went outside to turn on the fx I noticed it took a little longer to start and you could hear it revving up almost like it wanted to turn off. Granted the FX had been sitting for three days and it has been cold up here. I need to get one soon before i run into a problem where it won't start and I'm stuck somewhere.

My 2009 FX35 sits outside during the week and it recently started cranking more slowly as it got colder out. I also noticed some of the dash lights wouldn't light while cranking, particularly if the car sat for a few days. I wound up just having the dealer replace the battery for $150 installed which I don't think is too bad and they did it in 45 minutes without an appointment. I didn't even loose any of my settings.

I read through the threads on here and the fact that a fuse block and some weather stripping needs to be moved -- and a few stories of things going wrong -- deterred me from doing it myself. I have a long way to go to reach Handy Andy level.

AC amplifier basically controls when your compressor engages. I'm not sure why it would cause starting issues. I would assume that since the compressor is supposed to be disengaged when the car is cranking and if that is controlled by the AC amplifier and it's not properly disengaged, that could result in starting issues.

It's not something you replace unless you have starting issues. It's not like a belt or something that has scheduled replacement intervals. At $300+, not something you would do just in case.

By the name of the part, I'd agree with you on this, but in doing some searching around the internet, I found the part referred to as the "Unified Meter/AC Control Amplifier." It does more that just turn the compressor on and off (as evidenced by my speedometer issues mentioned earlier). I think it's controlling some sort of other ECU issue at start up other than just the A/C. Otherwise, you'd think that you could fix the problem simply by shutting off your A/C.

Completely agree that this is absolutely not a "wear" part - it should theoretically never need to be touched.
