Back in the Infiniti GAME!!

Sorry, I posted this on another site, until I found the best site...

Preface... I sold my 2007 G35x about 3 weeks ago, didn't mean to but the guy said yes to my ebay asking price. I was seriously just getting a feel for the demand(High book). I needed a bigger vehicle to do some traveling/camping/gold panning and the FX35 wasn't even on my radar. My first choices were the Avalanche, Ridgeline, and Taco. Yes, I was considering a truck . Couldn't stomach the look of the ridgeline, but it drove the best of the bunch, The Avalanche was just too big and costly, the Tacoma , well I just didn't get all the hype. Then I started looking at SUV's and was about to buy a 4runner when I paid a visit to my Columbus Infiniti dealer and test drove an EX35. It was almost exactly like my G but had a hatchback. Then I looked over and saw the Silver FX sitting there and I thought..."DAMN, that thing looks Sexy". After I drove it, I was sold on the FX. The ex was nice, but just didn't have the Balls or the Looks of the FX!!

So after weeks of researching, test driving and mucho tylenol, I narrowed it down to the FX35. Now I just had to find a smoking deal. My main requirements where
1.) 2010 or newer, silver or Gray(Too lazy to clean a black one)
2.) Nav( I travel and loved my G's Nav)
3.) Cooled seats
4.) No wood grain interior(not a deal breaker, but I find them hideous(no offense as too each his own))

I found about 8 of them nation wide. I have a habit of traveling to get my vehicles. 2.5 years ago, I snagged a Boxster S in Sacremento Ca(I live in Ohio(2500 miles) and last year I snagged my G from Dallas(1200 miles away). I finally found a good deal in Manassas VA(450 miles away). I clicked the "get our best price" on the dealers site and then lowballed that offer by about $1500. Long story short(yea right) The agreed.

SO yesterday(thursday) I pulled a round trip marathon fo about 900 miles. I left Ohio at 8:30 am and got back at 3:00Am the next morning. I drove a rental car 450 miles form Ohio to VA($107 compared to $500 air), test drove, combed over the whole car did everything but a rectal exam(I did look up the tale pipe though). It had a few imperfections, 3 scuff marks on the front right bumper(but don't most of them) and about 4 scratches on the passengers side(definately buffable). I used that to get the price down another $500. The interior looked like it just comae off the show room floor(seriously). It had all the keys, the manual, original window sticker and even the Pen!!

So long story short(Yeah I know, I know), I snagged a 2010 gray Fx with 35k miles(nav, ac seats, paint film, mud guards, trunk organizer...) for around $31.6k The best I saw on the net(non rental 1 owner) with my Criteria was about $35k. The inside was immaculate, the car fax was clean, It was a 1 owner(airfoce officer) and the car road like it was on rails the whole way home(450 miles). Idled, maintained Temp, braked and steered perfectly.

Now I gotta make a todo list:
1.) activate XM
2.) Put some Synthetic oil in her(Castro is my Fav, Mobil a far second)
3.) Detail the hell out of her
4.) Download all the Cd's I had in my G(150ish)
5.) read all the DYI and Shortcuts on here
6.) Oh, Go out and show her off

Afterthougth, I was damn near giddy the whole ride home and flet like a kid at christmas. Let me tell you I am not the giddy type either(6'3" 245lbs, gun loving(Site Admin for FNfourm.net), sports fanatic and never wear pink type a guy )

Pictures to come in another 6 posts

Sorry about the long winded post, but I was/am a little excited. So much better than my "G" and the best part, no one else has one in my area. Actually I only saw 1 the whole 900 mile drive

I really can't beleive how fast she gets going for her size. My G was faster, but it doesnt' seem so, due to the size of the FX. I need to clay bar it and buff out some superficial scratches tomorrow. I did use them to get another $500 off though. Got a lot of extras on it too. I foudn the manual with the pen still in it, mud guards, paint film(professionaly done), rear cargo organizer, Hell I even found the original window sticker!!

Congrats man, u pulled a mission but u will love the fx

Sounds like the adventure to get your fx was half the fun. Owning, driving and modding will be more enjoyable than you can imagine. Welcome to iS!

Congrats and welcome to :iS:

I'm actually originally from Ohio (Jackson Township area) near Canton/Cleveland. Live in NY now though lol. But I drove my FX to Ohio the last two summers and although I get alot of looks here in NY, the amount of looks I got in Ohio was astounding!

For some reason people there are amazed by our cars and never even heard of them lol. To them seeing an Infiniti there was like seeing an exotic car. It attracted a hell of alot of attention. I'm pretty sure that will be happening to you too!

My whole time there I never saw one Infiniti. I notice people there like driving American for some reason.

Thanks for linking my pics.

the ride was almost too comfortable. It felt like I was in an AC'd leather lazyboy. If it wasn't for donuts and Dew, I might have become a statistic :(

welcome to IS! Thanks for sharing your adventure in acquiring your car. Lol on how you described low balling the dealer. Start Modding!

I am extremely happy with the power and agility of "The Hulk", I would be more interesting in increasing MPG(if possible). I will be using it to do some cross country traveling, so MPG on Hwy will be paramount.

Funny thing is, when I test drove the ex and fx, I reset both MPG settings and drove the same exact hwy routes(10 miles ish). The ex was 23.5 and the fx came in at 25.2. Now these were two 2010s I test drove here in columbus, not the one I purchased. I definately attribute that to the 7 spd.

I considered resetting my tranny, like I did my G35x, but so far I don't see any need. Like my daddy said, if it aint broke don't fix it ;)

I am getting busy soon clay baring shortly(before the heat sets in). Then I will start buffing out the minor scratches and swirls. I will try to get pics of before and after. I watched the videos instructions over at autogeek.net and snagged some of their buffing pads. I also got a buffer from Lowes, Porter cable 7424xp. It has a clutch wich makes it almost impossible to burn the paint. I consider myself a "semi-Pro" at this as I have done about 10 of them and find it rather rewarding.

Thanks, for the warm welcomes. It was truly by accident that I found the FX series at all. They weren't even on my radar and I didn't even know they existed. As said in my Op, I really was about to pull the trigger on a 4runner. I am sure I would have enjoyed it, but not as much as the FX. The best part is that there is little to no learnig curve coming from my G35x.

Just got her clay barred, now I gotta buff the swirl marks and minor scratches out of her before I take her out tonight.

Welcome to :iS: all things FX:top::top: Great first write up.

Definitely some after pics when you finish pretty her up for the night out on the town, right?

Promise to have some pics up by Sunday. I just got done buffing the "ultimate compound" to get out most the scratches, they weren't really visable and there were not many but I knew they were there. Then I followed it up with Megs polishing stuff. That was a mistake as that was a PITA. I had to go back over the whole car with a damp rag to get that dried crap off. I am taking about a 30 minute break(or more) then I am putting on some Megs NXT Generation Tech . I have used that stuff in the past and it works great and lasts for long time.

I would have had it done but it is like 90 degrees and I had to hand wipe all that polish crap off. At least the humidity is low ;) I should put on some Megs canuba, but I might save that for next month. I just want to get a good protective / UV shell on it first. I didn't realize how big the vehicle is(surface area) compared to my G. Plus I don't have to do the front of the car as it has the 3m type paint shield. The first time is always the hardest though and I could use the exercise. :eek.:

Congrats and welcome to :iS: planning on mods? You'll love the FX and they are fast for their size, I think its one of the best sport suv's out there!

Wow, that last coat of wax was simple. I still had daylight left so I snapped some pics. I still have to wipe down the paint film on the front and do the windows, but not a swirl mark on the car and only a couple mild scratches.
