Hello Folks- I apologize if this is buried in a thread somewhere, but I haven't been able to locate it if one exists. Only a thread on DIY work which was certainly insightful.

As someone who likes to plan ahead, I'm rather curious to hear some of the long-time owners thoughts on Drivetrain Maintenance. I've read the owners manual twice, and haven't really come across any definitive timelines.

Seeing as the 7 speed tranny is a sealed unit, I do not plan on replacing the fluid. I don't really buy into "lifetime fluid" performance, but the manual says no regular maintenance is required, so I won't be doing anything. And yes, I do know a few folks whose sealed transmissions have crapped out after being serviced. I guess as with most things, experience can be our biggest influence.

For the differentials and transfer case, all I can find is for them to be inspected periodically. The local dealer has a schedule of 30k miles for the rear diff and transfer case, and 60k miles for the front diff. Does that sound reasonable to those that have owned these cars for a decent amount of time?

I know some dealers like to pad their profit margins by performing sometimes unnecessary maintenance, but I don't want to neglect anything either since certain repairs on these vehicles can get quite pricey. But I can also state that while growing up, my father never replaced the fluid in either of our Jeep Cherokees' Transfer cases, and they worked flawlessly until they were finally dumped due to advanced age and overall wear.

Thanks in advance!

I would recommend 45K and 90K respectively... You could even go a little longer than that... The front barely gets used so the front diff fluid is usually spotless...

If I remember correctly, I did my first change of all 3 fluids at around 45K... The rear was still in good shape, as was the transfer case... The guy said the fluid from the front looked like it was still new... So I left it for much later on my next change and will only change the front fluid every other time...
